Price of Yorkies I now have just my dear, sweet twelve year old Maltese Lady. When that dreadful day comes and I lose her, I plan on getting another Maltese and a Yorkie. I had actually originally planned on getting a Yorkie until Lady came into my life as a rescue. How much should I expect to pay for a female Yorkie puppy from a reputable small show breeder? I know the price for Maltese has skyrocketed in the past two years. Females now begin at $2,000 and they are few and far between. I only joined YT a week ago and I have already learned so much about Yorkies. I'd never heard of Parti or Briewer before. Thye are gorgeous! I gather they are a lot more expensive. So many color choices with a Yorkie! At least a Maltese only comes in white! I'd love to hear which are your personal favorite colors. |
Hi LadyMom. Welcome to YT! I think you will like it here. I am no expert, but yorkies can run anywhere from 300-400 up to 5000 or more. Most of the yorkies I have heard about seem to average about 1200 to 1500 for a nice pet quality yorkie. Show dogs are more I would expect. PS My personal favorites are traditional blue and tan, but I agree, they Beiwer's and Parti's are adorable! Sonya |
I think it all depends on the show breeder. Some show breeders actually charge less than you would pay from a backyard breeder and some charge quite a bit more. I would expect to pay anywhere from $1000-$3500. I've never inquired about pricing from the few show breeders I've looked at so I don't know how much they normally charge. I know a couple maltese show breeders that I have saved in my favorites charge $2500-$3500 for a female. |
I would say the price range you are looking at will be $1200-$2000 for a traditional yorkie. I love the traditional yorkie but I have also fallen in love with the biewers!! I love them!! The price for one of them is a bit higher, in the $2500-$3000 price range with some being higher and a few being lower, I haven't seen to many go for less than $2500. |
Thanks! I have learned from my experience with Maltese that's its safest to go to a breeder who shows on a small scale, is breeding to the standard and also health testing. I love my Lady but she is poorly bred and has so many problems. She's diabetic, epileptic, arthritic, hypothyroid and has terrible allergies. Oh, I forgot to mention she has a grade 1 heart murmur, too! She costs me a fortune in medications and vet bills. I would rather spend the money upfront next time and hopefully get a healthier dog! It sounds like Yorkies have many of the same health issues Maltese do like liver disease and luxtaing patellas. I would get two fairly close together so I'd better start saving my money, huh? Better sell a lot of bows! I am just learning about all the colors from all of you. I never knew there were so many. I can see why so many of you have several Yorkies - so hard to choose! |
I think it depends on where you are. I see that you are in NC I use to live there and I was going to get a dog there and some start around 600. |

I noticed there are about eight breeders here in North Carolina on the Yorkshire Terrier Club breeder's list. Hopefully I'll have many more years with Lady and plenty of time to save my money! |

AWe, I hope so. But in the mean time you can be searching for breeders and doing research on them and the yorkies!! i am glad you found out site. |
Are you looking for a Yorkie to show, or one for a pet. It makes a big difference in the price of the dog. |
My favorite color is the parti....of course,I could be a tad biased. I have both a parti and a traditional colored Yorkie. I think both are adorable but I really love Livi's parti color. Whatever color you decide on one day, for me, it's the Yorkie eyes that win you over! Tammy |

I'm not sure if it's the same with Yorkies, but there are a lot people breeding Maltese who really don't know what they are doing. The result is dogs with genetic problems and/or dogs that end up really far off the standard. Lady has cost me a small fortune in vet bills and I want to try to avoid that next time if possible. I'd never seen a parti Yorkie before and fell in love with all the beautiful ones here. Of course, I have always loved the tradional Yorkie, too. I think it will be so much fun to have both a Maltese and Yorkie together. The best of both worlds! |
I bought Marcel (avatar) from a show breeder and paid 1500. Wylie was from a less-than-reputable breeder and I paid 650. |

Male Maltese sell for about half as much as the females, believe it or not. You can get a male Maltese from a small show breeder for about $1000, less if he is a little older and they are anxious to get rid of him before he matures. You have to really hunt to find a female Maltese from a reputable breeder for under $2500. There are a few out there for about $2000, but they are hard to find and go quickly. Everybody wants the girls so they can dress them up. I happen to think they have darling clothes for the boys, too. It's incredible to think we are talking about the price of a little tiny dog here, isn't it? :) |
For a pet quality yorkie from a show home, you can expect to pay around $1200 and up. Wylie's mom has a wonderful breeder and that baby is such a cutie! |
