Bedtime Rituals? I wa thinking about this when I got up this morning. I wake up every morning to Hallie licking my face or pawing at my head to rub her belly and every morning I sit up in bed, rub her belly, help Simon stretch, rub his belly too and 10-15 min. later we all get out of bed, stagger to the coffee pot, they walk to the window to see what's new outside since the night before as I get ready for work. That's the morning........ At bedtime it is always the same. Usually they fall asleep on the couch while I'm watching tv or chatting on YT or both! I get up turn the tv off, brush my teeth and by the time I'm out of the bathroom they are both in bed waiting for me. I get into bed, Simon rolls over for me to rub his belly and Hallie scoots her way under my pillow to play peek-a-boo. THis lasts for 10-15 min/ too and then we all fall asleep. Every night the same snuggly routine. Do you all do this with your dogs too? |
Hefner usually settles down early with my youngest daughter around 9:30 or ten. He loves his sleep. He doesn't really wake up until 9 am or so and he eats about 10. Chai sleeps less and has to play really hard at night to "wind down" She and Hefner usually race around the bedroom and under the bed. I am always paranoid one of them is going to bonk their head on the bed frame. It is solid wood. Chai stays with me at the computer or wherever I am doing chores until I go to bed or she goes to bed with her mommy, my 17 year old, Amy. I always have Hefner in bed at night and sometimes Chai and sometimes my westie and, if my oldest daughter is home with Buddha, he may be there too! I love it! |
I am definitely a creature of habit! Everynight I fall asleep on the couch watching TV. Biddy falls asleep on my belly, Tucker falls asleep somewhere near my feet. My boyfriend goes into our back spare bedroom to "write" (I know he really goes back there to smoke cigarettes - he's not fooling anyone!). He comes out ans wakes us up. Biddy barks at him because she thinks he's a stranger. She realizes it's him and starts to wag her tail (her entire butt actually). Meanwhile Tucker is oblivious. I go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, etc. Scott carries Tucker to bed because he's too tired to walk. Scott gets into bed, Biddy curls up on top of him, then I climb in. Then I say, "Goodnight, Scott. Goodnight, Biddy. Goodnight, Tucker. Goodnight, Charlie. Goodnight, Augustus. Goodnight, Violet. Goodnight, Veruca. Goodnigh, Mike TV" (those are our fish). Scott, Biddy, and Tucker are all snoring by the time I'm done. Then I spend the next 1/2 hour trying to fall asleep while their syncranized snoring keeps me up... Wow - now I'm tired! |
I'm exhausted from reading about your nightly routine ;) BTW your avatar is Fantastic!!! |

Thank you! Passionfruition did it for me. Didn't she do a great job?! |
In the morning, Coco patiently waits for me to wake up. She then likes to lay all the way around my neck, all stretched out so I can rub her belly. We get up and go potty, brush teeth, I shower, she plays. At night she gets really tired, so we cuddle in bed for 15-20 minutes and watch tv, but then she suddenly gets this big burst of energy out of nowhere. That's when mom pulls the plug and Coco goes in her own bed and momma can sprawl out on hers...hehe...except when Coco and momma both fall asleep on the bed. |
Yup...here's mine. Syd eats dinner at 8:00 pm. That is followed by a HUGE burst of energy that entails at least an hour of fetch-playing and then maybe some laps around the coffee table to wear off. After that I comb and brush her and brush her teeth. Then she goes potty. By that time it is usually around 10:00. We settle down to watch TV or a movie and she plays by herself on the floor until she gets too exhausted. She then climbs up on the couch and falls asleep in my fiance's crossed arms (this has always been her favorite place and God forbid she ever gets too big to fit there). We usually let her sleep for about 15 min or so and then we make her bed...aka put her pillow under her usual bedding in her crate. I pick her up out of my fiance's arms and ask her if she is ready for bed (she usually gives a half-hearted wimper accompied with a yawn as an answer). She then kisses us both goodnight. As I carry her into her room she lays her head across my sholder half around my neck (this is my good-night hug). And once I put her to bed she falls instantly asleep. :) |
This is interesting... Ok at Baileys house,, between 10:30-11 pm we go for a walk around a couple blocks,, to get our final pee and poop,,, handled.. so we come in and I turn off the lights and tv, and he runs in the bedroom, jumps on the bed and fights with the pillows for about 2-4 min's.. Then he is on pursuit to find out if the cat is IN or OUT,,, ( thats very important to him) So by about 11:30, I turn the lights out, and he is usually already asleep beside me with his head on the pillow. In the am -alarm goes off at 7, I get up... ( he doesnt) I get all ready, so about 20 till 8 I get him up,,( cause he would stay in bed if he could) I take him out and he does his business, then off to work we go! ( If only he got a paycheck,,,,Note to self: work on that!) :D |
Yep! They are creatures of habit. That's for sure! :D We worked out in the yard late last night, because it's been so hot during the day. Kacee got mad at me, because she wanted to go to bed -- in our bed! I was sitting at the table having a snack before my bath and she got up from where she was napping under the table and gave me a dirty look and went to get in her daytime bed and went to sleep! :p |
Lucy is easy to get to sleep, you just scratch her head till she lies down, then rub her belly till she goes to sleep. When it is time to wake up LST (Lucy Standard Time) usually around 5 am, you get a face full of kisses, then another face and belly rub usually buys you another hour before she wants to get up and play! |
Is anyone's pup wayy tooo energetic before bed. I literally have to hold Coco down and even then she is constantly kissing and licking something. Notice I didn't say chewiing???!!! YES SHE HAS BROKEN THAT HABIT!!!...Anyway, I can't get her to calm down while it's cuddle time so I just end up putting her in her bed after 15 minutes of struggling to cuddle..haha..anyone else have this problem?? I totally tire her out too. |

hahahahhaha LST! that's hilarious, I have HST-Hallie Standard Time at my house ;) Simon would sleep till noon if Hallie would let him! |
Poor Simon! (I know how you feel!) I dont know about you, but LST runs on 4 time periods, time to play, time to eat time for kisses and time to sleep. Our day seems to be evenly split between these four activities, and although the time changes from day to day, LST is ALWAYS right! |
Chewy and I do the same thing pretty much every night. At around 10 ish I brush him out and then he snuggles on my lap to watch tv and get his belly rub. Then at 11 or so he goes potty and then into his bed. He goes right to sleep. |
Our girls are defintely creatures of habits.... They have a snack/meal around 8pm, which is followed by a small walk and some nightly play time...then they crash, hard, usually somewhere in the living room...when we finally hit the sack around 10pm they are already alseep and we tell them to go to bed and they will get up and head back to the bedrooms...Magic sleeps with my mom and Sailor with me...they know where their beds on and will immediately go lay down on them...rarely do we have to tell them... They both usually wake up sometime around 5:30 for potty and breakfast and then on weekends it is back to sleep for a while!!! |
Since I have a housefull, everything is exagerrated..If my computer screen goes black it MUST mean it is bedtime. No matter the time of day. Skylar is smarter so she doesn't get all worked up til she hears the sound from the computer actually going off. I always take ice water to bed, so that means alert! Mommie is gonna go soon. I make special treats for them and they all sleep together in an Xpen. Set up that pen, and you have a fight from them to get inside. They run in and start barking for their treats. They get them and when the light is turned off, they are quiet as mice til next morning. They are the alarm clock here...they bark, we get up. We come down and everyone is taken out on the deck. One parent takes the pen down, moves the wee pads, and fixes breakfast...We are tired jut about the time they are ready to start the morning playtime!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!! |
Our girls usually take a quick nap from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. & then we walk them for a solid hour from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. They get their nightly grooming & enjoy a 20 minute chew time! Kodah then runs to her bed & she is OUT around 10:00 p.m. Stormy paces - can't seem to find just the right place to pass out, but usually is out (under the loveseat or at my feet) about 10:45. When hubby & I head back for bed around 11:15 or 11:30 I scoop them up & carry them back to their playpen (beside our bed) & they are there until 6:45 a.m. Stormy still gets up once during the night, but goes back to sleep pretty quick. Kodah sleeps a couple of hours longer than Stormy in the morning. Storm is one bouncy girl in the morning - Kodah is a deadhead! When Kodah finally gets up, she can't even finish her business outside before Stormy takes her down! They are such fun to watch - I definitely love having two!! |
We have a routine also!!! Everymorning, my hubby's alarm goes off and I wake up too. We lay there and rub his belly and cuddle with him. Then Ray goes and gets ready for work. I try to wake Luig up and he usually just lays there!!! So cute!!! Then he slowly gets up and stretches and usually tumbles back over to try to sleep again!!! But then I poke at him til he gets up AGAIN!!! So then I pick him up and take him out to do his business!!! He slowly makes his way back to bed and falls back asleep!!! hehe!! So- on days I can go back to bed for a while- I do too and we sleep til 10 or so. But on days I have to be at work early, then I start to get ready and he usually comes into the bathroom too!!! And that is where he eats his breakfast!! Bedtime- he usually keeeps going to the bedroom and looking back to see if we too are going to bed!!!! Sometimes he gets a burst of energy!!! But as soon as lights are out so is he!!!! |
I guess they are just like children...they have their routines too! At night - we typically fall asleep watching TV. Once I get up, take him outside (I should say carry him outside because he is SO lazy) to have him go pee. He will then walk back into the house and will go on his bed in our room. In the morning (if he is not whimpering like a little baby first), the alarm goes off, he runs to my side of the bed and starts crying for me to pick him up. I do, put him in the bed and he licks my husband and I to death! Then I rub his belly and it is time to go out and go potty!!! :) |
Gwen sleeps with us at night, but not without getting her belly rub first. In the morning between 6 and 7 I wake to her licking my face and pulling my hair like hey I have to go the bathroom. She's so funny she cracks me up. |
My darling Gracie (RIP) had bedtime rituals! She had her whole little routine and made us laugh every night and morning! Gosh I miss her so! Lexy won't settle down when she is in our bed! She wants to play rough! I'm hoping when she grows up whe will want to sleep with us! |
Please don't have me committed for telling you this lol I rock my furbabies like infants and sing to them. Then I kiss them all and tell them sweet dreams. Angel then sleeps at the foot of my bed, while prince curls up with me in the spooning position lol. The puppies are only 7 weeks old so they still sleep on the floor..........for now lol |
Awwwww that's sooooo sweet! I forgot to mention that to drown out the sounds of living in an apartment I play a baby lullaby cd all night for Simon and Hallie! So if you are gonna be committed so am I ;) Do you think we could take them with us? |
Can you imagine how many people would love to re-incarnate as YT's mom's and daddie's babies?? I always rock mine or walk around with one or two and sway like w moms do with our precious human babies. They are so human-like that it is had to remember they are furbabies..That is yet another thing I love about these critters. Make that number, oh maybe, 203 in the list of things I love about them...LOL |
Well in our house... Gracie decides when EVERYONE goes to bed. She plays until about 10pm then goes into the bedroom and hops in bed. If we don't follow, she comes out to get us. She just sits and looks at us as if we are too stupid to figure out that it is time to go to bed. If we don't follow the second time, she will come out again and sit, back up toward the bedroom and make noises. That is when we get up and go to bed. Who is the boss you ask? |
I'm definetly not a morning person. I awake to Zoey stratching my face, I usually step in poop, and trip over her trying to get to the bathroom. Drink my coffee, get dressed and it's time to care for 14 dogs. That's my whole day. ;) |
After Maggie has her evening meal (around 5) she knows it will soon be time to go outside (off leash in our fenced yard), to play with the big dogs. She will run and run, until she is poopy tuckered out. We then go back inside and have a small treat. She gets up on my lap to get brushed, and then crashes out (around 9PM). I then carry her to bed, with a light kiss on her little head. She wakes up the next morning around 7. I get up during the night and then for good at 5. She just rolls over until I convince her it's time to get up. Then the day starts all over. It's amazing how they get use to a routine. |
Gucci's routine well is not exactly one. She is pee pad train so she goes on her own when she needs to go potty. I have dry kibble out all day for her to free feed. Around lunch or dinner depends if she has finish all the dry kibble I gave her some Natural Balance Meat rolls pieces. I was giving it to her twice a day but she started getting to plump so now I alternate. When she wants to sleep she goes to her bed that is located by the feet of our bed or she climbs to our bed. I feel like such a bad mommy cause everyone has a routine and I dont. SO far this way has work for us, but sometimes I wonder if a set routine will be better for her. |
Chachi and Jewels usually fall asleep on the couch. Then they head up to bed with us about ten oclock. Jewels wakes up about 5:30 and Chachi wakes up when we do. |
