To cut or not to cut? Keeley is a shaggy boy. His roots are light and then ends are black. It gives him this "greasey kevin federline look" ;) . I have been playing with the idea of getting him trimmed up a bit. But I am not sure if it is really worth it. He is only 13 weeks. When has everyone else gotten their puppies first cut/trim? |
I think a nice puppy cut :p Looks nice & tidy & is good for the Summer ;) Do you have any pictures of him??? :animal-sm |
I was cracking up at the "greasy Kevin Federlne look"! I was nervous about getting Tucker cut the 1st time - but I'm so glad I did! He just looked so much cleaner and you could see his face. Even if it's just a little bit - I think it's worth it... Good luck! |
Syd got her first haircut at about 13 weeks. I totally know what you mean about the "greasy Kevin" look. :D When bath day is nearing and she is starting to get a little greasy...when I take out her top-knot, the hair just stays there in position straight upright and she looks like Don King. It adds to the look that the rest of her is black and tan...but the top of her head is pure white. She looks like a big doofus. :p |
4 Attachment(s) I just grabbed the camera and took a few pics of my little guy. Remember this 2 hours after a bath. This is as clean as he gets. (Isn't he cute though? Greasy or not.) |
1 Attachment(s) One more- This one shows the full effect of my little grease monkey. |
He is adorable! I love the last pic! Too cute. Personally, I love the shaggy look, but the groomers can just clean him up a little bit. |
call me crazy but I love that scruffy puppy look! He is adorable. |
I totally regret getting Lily's hair cut. She had such a beautiful coat coming on and now she has a schnauzer cut. She wasn't suppose to get a schnauzer cut mind you, but the lady who groomed her raises schnauzers. Hmmm, wonder if that's why?! I don't even want to post any recent pics of her cause so looks so silly. |

What adorable pictures - he looks like a little ham - especially the 4th one where he's kinda got his head tilted - I'd get that one blown up - he looks like he's smiling right at you or talking to you - what a dollboy!!! Dana |
Yeah, me too!! Nikki, aka Queen of the Grease Monkeys, looks good for a few hours max after her twice a week bath. So frustrating, but that's a yorkie trait I think. She has baby fine silky think hair, so it looks like Bozo electrocuted!!!! I want to cut her hair so it looks nice for longer periods of time and I am afraid too. I also don't want to leave her with anyone let alone a groomer, so..............big delima! I did trim her hair myself a bit and it looks better, but I trimmed the feet area too much. I'm tempted to go for the puppy cut too. |
awww... Meg... Your 13 wk old little baby looks alot like my 10 wk old Sophie..right down to the silver coming in top of their heads... ;) Sophie too gets greasy...what causes that? :p I wish I knew how to post a pic..I need to get busy and learn.. |
How old should they be for there 1st hair cut? |
2 Attachment(s) Meg, I thought I would show you some before and after pics. The lady cut Lily very nice, but just the wrong cut. I'm sure another groomer would give a yorkie puppy cut. |

I just got Chachi and Jewels hair cut. They are 4 and 5 months. They both look cool for summer. However your dog is pretty young and you might want to consider it. It makes them look much older without the black hair that gets cut out. Chachis face was completely light it didn't even look like him. Good luck. |
Thank you both for the compliments! It is growing out now and she looks much better. We just hope her sweetheart~Maximus doesn't see her looking like a schnauzer. He might run the other way. hehe |
2 Attachment(s) I cut Mare for the first time at 5 months. But only because it is summer. Let me show you before and after - there is only a few weeks between these pics, so you see what it looks like when you cut the dark ends of. For some reason the first pic is the latest, but I guess you can tell: |

the sooner they get used to it - the easier it is in the future - Mine were about 4 months old.... |
Lily and Mare are both so cute with their little cuts. I love seeing the before and afters. He is a cutie!! huh? I am so in love with him. I am so undecided. I don't know what to do!? I don't want him to look grown up yet, but I am tired of the little greasy spikes all over his forehead. |
1 Attachment(s) Just cut them then - and no other hair - I did that with Kali when she was 4 months...rummaging for a picture....here it is - I have just cut the dark ends of her, but let her keep everything else: |
Rocky just got groomed for the first time this week. I just had the groomer "clean" him up a bit. She did his ears, paws, trimmed the hair on his legs and shaved his bottom and his entire tummy. I would like to try the long hair for a while and see if I can keep up with it. So, she just touched him up a little. If the long hair gets to be too time consuming, we will get a puppy cut. For now, daily brushing is not a problem, but his hair is not very long. Also, I asked her not to cut the hair on his head, as I would really like for him to have a top knot. This is just an in-between stage and the hair is not long enough to all go up and too long to be left down! My husband did not want us to get the puppy cut just yet! He is a sucker for Rocky and didn't want him to lose his black, puppy look! Their coats are not terribly thick, so I wasn't worried about him getting too hot. Anyway you go, your baby will be perfect! |
Oh my GOSH! What a cute, cute, cute baby! I vote for the puppy cut... it's less maintenance for a greasy little Kevin. ;) |
My question is should we cut the puppy hair off? My little guy has gone to the groomer for ear trim and sanitary clean up, but the rest of his hair has never been trimed, the hair is not as thick as hers, and they have both been grommed sence the day I got them, now what I was wondering is, if I do a puppy cut will it make the hair come in thicker when it grows? and also don't I want to keep the black sadle? Please someone fill me in on this matter,I really like the long hair and they enjoy getting pretty everyday...thanks |

Yeah I think I am going to have to get a puppy cut ( may wait another week or so though). Thanks for all the help. And the pics it really helps to "see" it. That pic of Kali looks good. That is what I am looking for, just cleaned up a bit. But to tell you truth, the more I think about it, I am affraid I will miss my little scruffy butt kevin, it just fits his rambunctious (sp) personality. << I'm so torn>> |
