Puebreds are dumb?!?! OMGosh!! I am so angry right now I don't even know what to say!!! I'm at school right now and I was talking about Beau to one of my classmates and she plain out said, "I think purebreds are dumb!" EXCUSE ME?!?!?! She said that there is too much inbreeding with purebred dogs and it causes too many genetic problems!!! I could have punched her in the face! Are you trying to tell me that Beau has genetic problems? I think NOT and even if he did, what the *$!# kind of statement is that!!! She then informed me that mix breed dogs are more intelligent, gentle, and just plain out better dogs! I have had many mix breed dogs in my life, and they were great! But Beau has been my best dog yet!!! I explained the "breed for betterment" thing, and she was like, "Well, when does it stop?" I dunno...I'm so mad right now!! |
Geez she was very verbal in her comments wasn't she? I guess she didn't think about hurting your feelings.:( It is my opinion, even though you didn't ask, is that mixed breeds are so loving and thankful for the love that you give them. I have to admit, from my past two mixed breeds, that their personality was more pleasant. They were much easier to please. Maybe because they weren't so opinionated:p However, Buddy, my only pruebreed, has way more intellengence than the mixbreeds. He "THINKS". He's very opinionated in what he wants and when he wants it. I find the Yorkie a very intellengent breed but can be standoffish at times. I guess they know they can get away with it because they are so darn cute. |

I agree that mix breeds are easier to please, MOST DEFINATELY!! But I still couldn't believe she said that and told me that an irresposible breeder was one who purposefully breeds purebred dogs because of inbreeding. I've calmed down now and understand a little better what she was saying I guess.. but it hurt my feelings so was so blunt about how she didn't agree with me owning Beau. I just needed to vent on YT...:D You guys (and gals) are always there for someone who needs it!! |
How rude! She's just jealous of you... or maybe she is just dumb because she was inbred lol :D |
Ignorance is Bliss or so they say! :) Too bad she hasn't met some of our babies. I have a neighbor who swore she hated little fufu dogs (as she called them). She has a BIG dog, who is a great dog, I just love him. Anyway, once she met Kalina she changed her mind. She said to me, "I am completely in love with Kalina and wish she was mine! I can't believe that I feel that way, but she is GREAT!!" That made me feel good. Dogs are like people - you have to get to know them; you can't just make random comments. |

I've heard people say that before too, but don't believe it's true. My kids are really smart. Just a little head strong. |
Evidently this person is not educated in the canine world. Most people with these types of comments, just spout off on pure justification or jealousy. You can only consider the source, don't let it get to you. You know better, right? |
To be really honest, you see as many health problems among mutts as purebreds, despite folk wisdom to the contrary. Purebred yorkies have a lot of dental problems, but so do other small dogs, regardless of breed or mix. German shepherds have a lot of hip problems, but so do many large breed mixed breed dogs. Golden retrievers get cancer alot, but I've seen plenty of mutts with cancer too. If anything, I think purebreds have a certain edge healthwise since an informed owner will know what to look out for in their breed and can catch any problems early, and responsible breeders will work to eradicate genetic problems from their lines. Her arguments about personality are just plain silly too. I've met plenty of mixed breed dogs that have attitude problems, and plenty of perfectly sweet purebreds, and vice versa. I'm a firm believer that attitude, intelligence and behavior in a dog is more the product of the owner's interactions with the dog than of the dog's genes. |

My first reaction to this is: Some people are dumb! that's all I got ta say about that! |
You should have told her that purbreds are the result of mixing as well!! |

Thanks for the comments! They really made me feel better! Mardelin: Evidently this person is not educated in the canine world. Most people with these types of comments, just spout off on pure justification or jealousy. You can only consider the source, don't let it get to you. You know better, right? Yeah, I know better! I didn't let my face show the emotions I was feeling, and the rage was building up. That is why I had to post about it, I just couldn't hold it in anymore, but I figured that she was uneducated about canines so I wasn't going to be mean to her. |
Wow - sounds like that person didn't really know what they were talking about. First of all, most purebreds are NOT inbred. Most breeders don't breed that closely... Mixed breed dogs can be just as inbred as purebreds depending on where they came from (ex. an animal horder that has several dogs that repeatedly breed...). And one thing about purebreds is that each breed has there more common genetic problems so you at least know what to look out for and the breeders know what to try to breed out of their lines. With mixed breeds, you can get genetic problems from each breed (yorkie/poodle mix for example - you get yorkie problems AND poodle problems). And I don't think intelligence has anything to do with being mixed or purebred. It is a fact that there are certain breeds that are more intelligent on average than other breeds, but it really just depends on the individual dog. Just doesn't sound like that person really knows much about dogs |
