I SO want to help you, but I find your posts SO difficult to read...without punctuation and capitals and sentences. I'm not sure I understand - what kind of food is he on now? And what food is being suggested? |
Wylie's Mom, the food is Medi-cal. I think it is Canada's version of Royal Canin Veterinary Diets. It is probably almost identical to the Royal Canin Hepatic LS 14 (used for liver problems in the US). It is the one I posted the ingredients to yesterday. That being said, the ingredients could be different. Medi-cal doesn't seem to list them on their site. It probably isn't a good food (being as Royal Canin likes to add corn but that is usually the least of a liver compromised dog's diet anyway. It is probably way better than Science Diet. Babymax, I don't know what to tell you. I would have to see the ingredients. Yorkieluv might know what is in that food. Could we have a list of ingredients please? |
What kind of food is he on now? Could your vet recommend a good food for him? I'm having a hard time understanding your post to. Sorry |
Yorkiekids, I think the problem is that there are very few (less than ten) dog foods that are okay for Max's problem. Out of those ten there are about two or three that even come close to being "good". The one that Max is on might be just fine. I think we need to see the ingredients. Even better I think the liver shunt group on Yahoo needs to see them. |
Here's the link...Babymax, if you can please show me which food he is on: http://www.medi-cal.ca/diets/canine_en.php The Medi-cal is from Royal Canin, so the brand is probably okay, I just need to know which one. You keep saying low-protein, but there's not a food on there called low-protein. Did the bag say Hepatic or Renal or Vegetarian, etc.? Babymax, dogs who have liver problems are very fussy eaters because the "wrong" kind of food makes them feel sick and causes the seizures and lethargy. They associate this to the food, so they're very picky about eating...The get to the point where they think food is evil. Once you get him stabilized, he will want to eat, but it's important that you feed him a food that's specifically for his liver condition like Royal Canin Hepatic LS 14... |
