Butt Smelling/Whining -- Ugh Charlie (Chi-Pom mix) keeps smelling Sam's butt. He whines and whines and then smells Sam's butt. He never does this. I've looked at Sam's backside and cant see anything. I even checked out his poop, looks normal. Sam keeps biting at his tail. I dont know if he is trying to get his butt or the tail his aim. Its drivin me nuts. They never do this. Any ideas? |
He might need his anal glands expressed. Have you noticed him "scooting" on the floor at all? |

If he does then he does it when I am not looking. Charlie is going to the vet tomorrow for heart worm injections so I guess I can take Sam out there for a quick see. Now this is a dumb question -- do they still do the anal glands if they are fixed? My groomer does all this for me. We are on a need to know basis. I dont like to think about them expressing them, makes me kinda :sickie: |
Yes, the anal glands have nothing to do with neutering. Different area. :) I think bringing him to the vet is a good idea. Sometimes anal glands can get impacted, but they are very painful. I think you would notice if it was something serious like that. Did he just go to the groomer? Sometimes they get sore right after their glands are expressed. |

He hasnt been to the groomer in almost 6 weeks. Sam doesnt really seem to be bothered by it and he poops normals - doesnt seem like it bothers him. They have finally worn out. Charlie passed out in the chair and Sam is passed out around my neck. -- And I wonder why the Chiro @ the Health Expo said I had a lot of neck issues:p |
We're going to the groomer tomorrow and I'm having them checked out too. |
