Harnesses Sassy is able to chew the front collar part of her harness. I believe it fits properly but if it does why can she get to and chew on the collar part? Should I tighten just the collar part to correct this? How many fingers should you be able to get in to insure it is a proper fit? thanks in advance. Cheryl Allen |
Do you have a pic of it? You probably want to be very careful about tightening bc of a yorkie's propensity for CT collapse. I use harnesses that do NOT touch the neck at all -have you tried those? |

Harness Ok I will not tighten it as I don't want any problems to arise. Where can I buy a better harness for her and what size would you get for an 8.5 Yorkshire Terrier? Also these harnesses your talking about can they slip out of them? |
My harnesses don't touch the neck either. You might want to change to a different kind. |
I wouldn't use a harness that goes around the neck like a collar. But even with the ones that don't go around the collar, your yorkie might get their lower jaw hooked around it and start chewing. Tia's harnesses used to always be tightened correctly, but she figured out how to roll out of it when we were on a walk, or chew on it when left to her own devices (I went on holidays and she was being sat by a friend who left the harness on her for a while after the walk...Tia chewed through it). I recommend ordering a harness from chattiesmom. Tia chewed through hers but I believe it was due to anxiety that I was on holiday (at elast that's what I like to believe;) ). So I replaced it with a Buddy Belt. Its made of good quality leather and there is NO WAY for them to chew on it while it's on. They are a tad pricier....but I think it's a good investment. Also, the girl at the store fitted her to a size 2, which to me seemed tight, but sure enough, the leather softened up just enough to form to her body and her BB has never bothered her one bit. Plus I know she can never "roll" out of it. |

Girl, please send me a PM for directions to the Hice Harness Hospital. Sounds like an injured harness in need of treatment :) |
I too was turned on to the Buddy Belt through YT and now I don't know what i'd do without it. It's high quality and doesn't bother him a bit!!! |

Yeah We were able to stop her from getting to the harness to chew by tightening it. We can still get two fingers in no matter how she moves her neck so all should be ok. She is in surgery right now! Sniff Sniff cry cry cry.. I know I am doing the responsible thing by getting her fixed but, I can't help but feel like a crap head for putting her through so much. |
