2 puppies at once? I'm absolutely thrilled to be getting my new little boy Kingston in a few weeks! I have done a lot of research but there is so much more to learn each day. I've been preparing for Kingston's homecoming and I hope everything goes smoothly *crosses fingers*. I have thought about getting Kingston a playmate in the future, but today I came across another little boy from another YT member and I just got this weird feeling. I've seen a lot of cute puppies for sale before, but for some reason when I saw Oscar, I had a strong feeling that he just had to be mine lol. So instead of waiting to get Kingston a playmate, would it be a good idea to get him one now? Being a first time Yorkie mom, I am worried that I might be getting in over my head and might not be able to manage 2 puppies at once. For those of you have who have more than one Yorkie, how difficult did you find it to be raising 2 little babies at the same time? Or does it even make things easier since they never get lonely, and have someone to sleep with and play with? I'm already nervous about potty training one puppy let alone two  Any thoughts and suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated :D |
Phoebe is a 1 1/2 years old and I just got her little sister at 12 weeks she is, is a lot more work that for sure, but a lot more pleasures too, Phoebe took some time to potty train as a pup, but Shayna (her sister) got potty train in almost a week , I think the fact that Phoebe is train help her a lot, they play and play and play; also because Shayna loves to eat Phoebe is eating a lot better too, the only thing that is hard with two yorkies to go places it help a lot having my hubby with me;) |
I say go for it. We got Barney first. Then went back 2 weeks later and got Bennie, his brother. I truly think it was the best thing we ever did. This way, you get the potty training all over with at one time. They play all the time...I was worried aout them not wanting anything to do with me since hey have each other...Not even an issue. I get twice the loving....It is awesome.... |
I cant, and wont tell you what to do, listen to your heart, i can only tell you my experience. When we got our first little girl, i knew that i one day would want a little sister for her, when she was 5 months old, i knew, that if i wanted to go ahead with a second, i better not wait too long. My husband, and i discussed it, night after night, so we decided to do a search, we found another little girl when our first one was 5 months old. The day we brought our second baby home, i thought i had made the biggest mistake ever, i felt sad, to see my girl sad, i felt like i failed her somehow, and as silly as it sounds, got the puppy blues, i cried so much, my husband, and a friend spoke to me, assured me, that everything will be fine. My first girl, hated her little sister, she didnt even want to look at her. About 10 days later, the 2 of them were playing together, that was the day i knew, there was no turning back. It was a lot of work, having 2 babies, but when i look back now, i smile, they are such a blessing, they do everything together. It's nice to have them both the same age, it really is. Good luck! |
I got my two at the same time, it was a lot of work, but well worth it. They do keep each other company! |
I'd get him now, because this way they'll grow up together and you won't have any jealousy matters. |
If you have the time, living space, and finances to do it, I say go for it especially since you have set your heart on Oscar. If you don't get him you will keep thinking about him and mulling over it. |
That's one of the things I worry about too, whether or not they will get along. But since they're both young and are used to being around their littermates, it makes me feel a little better about it. It's such a big decision and I don't want to take it lightly. Thank you for your input  Quote:

Please get both now. If I got a second dog now, Ellie would have a fit. She is so jealous. It is best to get both at once. |
That's what I was thinking too. The only thing is, since I'm new to all of this, I'm afraid it might be too overwhelming. I know a lot of people get frustrated with potty training...and having to potty train 2 at a time might be too much for a new puppy owner like myself. But it does make sense to get them both when they're young to avoid jealousy issues. Quote:

i say do it now better than later! Skoshi gets jealous a lot even tho he gets all the attention in the world as soon as you touch the baby girl then he thinks he doesnt get enough. They play of course and skoshi protects her but i think i waited a little long. but do think about money. You are gonna have double vet bills, like shots. if you have the money then i say do it. |

You very wise, not to take it lightly, it's a big decision, but i know you will decide whats best for you. Good luck, and keep us posted ;) |
Personally, when I got my yorkie poo, who was my first ever dog, I was glad I only got one. About 2 months later, we added a second dog.. but I needed that time to learn and get more experience about how to care for a puppy. If you asked me now that I've had 4 dogs and all are still puppies -- I would say I can handle it. But there are day that are overwhelming with two.. when they chew the moldings on the wall as a team effort, when they still have potty accidents in the house, when they won't walk on leash nicely and I have to do seperate trips. I really think it depends on how much time you have and if you have the ability to train two puppies. Also, two puppies means two of everything which can be financially straining in some cases and double the vet bills and double the training classes. :) I think it would be great for the puppies to have each other, it just depends what you can realistically handle at one time :) |
I would~ Get them together, I have 2 I got from the same breeder and they were born 4 days apart...I had one for about 1 month and then had to have another, BEST decision I ever made...I even went to look at 2 males for sale on my way home from work the other day, what a mistake, because I could not take one away from the other they just cuddled and played together so much, so if I got one I would have to get 2 and we can only have 3 animals total in the city...But hey, who's counting...My husband just said "Yvonne, you better not!" haha, MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...Is he challenging me???????????? :D |
