Anyone use glucosamine chondrotin?? I have been reading about luxating patellas and have seen a lot about it and that it does wonders. I know there is some glucosamine in Missing Link, but was wondering if I should supplement also.. |

i give it to Layla from time to time... for joint health! |
Zippy has been using glucosamine for years, ever since his back injury. He gets the human tablet kind crushed into a powder and put in his food. |
do you give missing link as well..i am just not sure if doing both the ML and glucosamine is overkill but she was just diagnosed with mild LP and I can feel her knees are getting worse... |
In Zippy's case the only supplement he takes is the Glucosamine along with his regular drugs. I can see a big difference in his comfort level and mobility when he hasn't had it for a while. |
how much do you give him..how big is the tablet? |

I have been giving my old Lady a glucosamine supplement for years for her arthritis. It really helps. It does take a few months to see a difference, though The key is to make sure you give enough. Food, treats, even supplements like Missing Link and Nupro (according to my vet), don't contain enough to have any benefit. The dosage for dogs is 500 mg. for each 20 lbs. of dog once a day. My 8 pound Lady gets 300 mg a day per my vet. This is a neat site to bookmark with dosage for OTC medications: http://www.walkervalleyvet.com/otc-meds.htm If you look at glucosamine products, you'll see that many of the less expesnive ones aren't really a bargain if you give the proper amount. The best ones are the brand names like Glycoflex and Cosequin. |

I get my glucosamine at Sam's or Walmart, they usually have the better price. |
I was giving Lady Nutro's Joint Formula and my vet still told me to add glucosamine. I'd try the online pet supply companies like Revival, KV Vet or Entirely Pets for either Glycoflex or Cosequin. They are all very reasonable. The exact dosage for the brand will be on the bottle. |
I've been giving a glucosamine & chondroiton supplement to Lacy for her LPs but I ran out a little over a month ago and haven't bought more...I feel like a bad momma. I plan to go to Petsmart this weekend though and will get her some more then |
Some people were also recommending this one..its a human one... http://www.biosynergy.com/GCMSM.htm I looked up the cosequin..there are a few brands that make it..and some are chewable... then the glyco-flex has different life stage ones..... which do you think is better to use!!! Help!!! |
I use Glycoflex, but I know people who swear by Cosequin. Is Reese having problems or are you just doing it as a preventative? Glycoflex has different formulas for different stages of joint problems. |
