Where are all the big gates at?? We have a very large opening for our kitchen which is where the new puppy will go. Roo would be okay with some carpet but we don't want the new one on any carpet so we're looking for a huge gate- 83 inches is the gap. Does anyone have such a large area? We don't want to leave the pups in the bathroom so we're hoping to get this figured out- we thought of using an x pen and just using a few straight panels- any experience with this problem? or any gates (non permanent) to recommend??? |
I use AN X=PEN OPENED OUT (JUST FOLD THE UNUSED Panels to size) I use one to partitian off the entrance to my living room since that is where I keep my teddy bear collection. Sonya |
I agree the Xpen would be a good idea. I have a teddy bear collection too. |

Do you think there is a connection to loving furry teddy bears and furry little yorkies? |

well the other thing I found are free standing dog gates...and my pups are so little i'm sure they wouldn't knock them down. I'm worried that the xpen would be a pain to store- are they easy to take up and down? http://www.orvis.com/store/product_c...ubcat_id=12987 I think it needs something to lean on but we have the cabinets/fridge...I just don't know? |
Check this site out. They may give you some ideas of what to look for. But I would think that a small yorkie would get thru the slats. I use an xpenbecause it has small enough openings that puppies cannot get thru.. Yes if you leave it straight it will fall over. You need to make it stable by angleing each section a little and it will be very stable and cover a large area. I bought 2 complete sets ( total of 12 panels) and attached them to make a large area in my family room for them. http://www.bargainpetstuff.com/Gates.htm |
Look what I just found! I wanted something freestanding that wouldn't damage my walls or trim. http://apparelandaccessories.petedge...ates-ZX741.pro It's plenty long too... deb |

How about this one? the slats are only 1 1/4" apart! Whoohoo! deb http://www.shop.com/Freestanding_Pet...tml?sourceid=3 |
I wasn't even thinking about the slats and I'm usually so good about that! lol oh well thanks for all the suggestions. I think I may go with a free standing gate and pray that it's long enough! I'm just worried that an x-pen will be a pain to take down and put back up since I'm using it to block off a very in use area (the kitchen)! Thanks again for all the help! |
Sounds like a great idea. The entrance to my living room is 8 feet wide so that is why I use the opened out x pen. I extend it past the opening and the love seat on one end keeps it in place and I prop a small block of wood on the other end. I have a step down living room so it sits down from the entry way floor so it cannot fall. |
