Normal? Is it normal for a Yorkie to gain weight after he's neutered? My little Axle is a Chunky Monkey now! :D |
My females gain weight after spaying but the vet says it's because I feed them to much! |
I never knew that was a fact...I think it's a myth...Consider to reduce the food intake:animal36 |
How old is your pup? If he is growing into a sausage shape, cut back on his food. |

Axle is 10 months. I feed him his gravy food in the morning and I leave a bowl of dry for him to snack on. I might have to take away the dry in the evenings. |
I've heard they do, but don't know if it's a fact or an old wives tale. |
Yeap every dog I have had did..but They lost it after awhile.. It must have been water wieght LOL |

All mine always have. I always attributed it to the fact that they start to calm down a bit after neutering. Of course, THAT just brings up the question - do they calm down because of the neutering or just because they're growing up. Sort of like the chicken or the egg..... |
Mine haven't get any I think because she loves to run and walk, she pretty active little girl:aimeeyork |
Because of the hormone change they naturally have increased appetite. You can manage it though, if they get overweight, cut down the amount of food. |
You can check with the vet on feeding. I was leaving Winstin food down all day. He was getting a bit to much of a belly on him. He was eating 1/2-3/8 of a cup a day. At his vet visit a few weeks ago she told me to feed him in the morning a snack in the afternoon and dinner and no more than 3/8 of a cup. She was concerned because he was getting a little chunky. Now, he is just about 3 and a half months so not nutated yet. But If yours has food down all the time, I would say that is not problem and neutering is just a coincidence. |
