Spikey update So, last week I asked questions about taking our dog out vs. pee pads. I said my husband wanted the dog to go outside only, I was ok with the pee pads if he can not go out. I also said I didn't like myself or my girls taking Spike out at night because of the "wildlife" around here. Well, last night, after the girls argued about who was to take him out, my husband went. 30 seconds later he came running back in. They (he and Spike) were 4 feet away from an 800lb bear digging through our garbage!! Scared him half to death. Well, Spikey went in his pen with a pee pad:D He uses his pee pad all the time now when in his pen. During the day, I crate him and take him out every 2hrs. When he "goes", he gets 20min or so of free time. He is always right behind me waiting for treat when we come in. It is so cute to see him looking at us, waiting for his praise WHILE he is peeing. No accidents on the floor since Friday  My question is this, do you think he would use the pee pad if it was out of the pen, like while he was running around the living room with us at night? He looks in the pen when he is playing, but I don't know if he wants a toy or the pad. I have to get bells for the door... Thanks for listening. Liz |
He should get use to using the pee pad. Just watch him closely when he is out and have a few pads out where he can easily get to them and praise him when he uses them. How did you get that bear to show up at that exact time!!!lol |
I'd leave a few pads in different areas if your going to let him run around. This way he doesn't have to try to find it. |
I had to laugh when you said your hubby wanted your puppy to do his business outside because my husband just finished saying to me yesterday, "Are you taking Mindy outside at all?" or are we going to have a dog that does his business in the house (not quite in those words if you know what I mean). I'm with you though....freaks me out when I would have to take her outside at night. The lights only light up so much and then if she goes around the corner I can't see her at all. Just so much easier to have them go on pads. They are cleaner, it's more convenient, no fighting over who's going to take the dog out, she won't freeze in the winter, no brown spots on the grass, you have to pick up the poop no matter what. He'll have to get over it. Don't you agree????? lol |
I SOOO agree. Last night Spike was running around the living room playing (Slowly, because he had just had his shots), and he found a paper in the corner and went pee on it. My husband didn't praise, didn't yell. He just picked it up and threw it away. We did open his pen so that he had access to the pad. We did put more lights outside. We'll see what happens.... |
