city trees Does anyone know if I can remove city trees that are on my front lawn? Contractor says I can remove them with no permit as long as I replace with another tree. Not sure if I need permit or not. |
I wouldn't without checking with the city. You good get in big trouble, I believe the city owns the parkways |
If its a "look" that is throughout your neighborhood, you should check your local municipality. |
I live on a tree lined street in the city and they insist the trees be there and I cannot remove or altar it in anyway...I can put landscaping round the bottom. Did I mention its half dead and a TOTAL eye sore???? |
City owns the trees on the tree front lawns. We had a gorgeous tree in front of our house - long story short - some big old bees nest was built in it - I thought the city was just going to come and get the bees nest out - well go to work with tree in front - come home from work with NO tree in front. I literally cried pulling in my driveway - at first I couldn't think was "different" and then I almost died when I just saw an ugly stump.:( And to make matters worse - that was two years ago and they still haven't replaceed it after numerous calls to our councilman and the division of forestry. I can't even put my own tree that we would pay for in front. They say no money in the budget now for trees but I am on a waiting list that's a mile long. |
I seem to be the only one in my neighborhood with these ugly trees. I think all of my neighbors have been removing them LOL they just don't talk about it. I just don't want to get in trouble. |
If someone asks, tell them they trees were diseased and had to be removed. If they are as ugly as you say they are they probably really are diseased. |
Usually cities will take them down and replace them with new trees. My sister (who worked for the city of Burbank) told me that anyone can call the city and tell them they want a tree in front of their house and the city will come out and put one in free of charge. I would call your city. |
I would check with the city first as this could be a very expense mistake if you don't. Easy phone call to be sure. |
I'd call the city and ask them so you don't get a fine. I have heard that you can take down one tree if you replace it with another. |
Thanks everyone - I've tried calling and left messages but I haven't received response. I think I'm going to have to go in person. I will try to go today after work. |
Are you only talking about the tree's being in the center after the side walk or in your yard and does the city help with other things like fences? |
The trees are on what would be the sidewalk that belongs to the city. No they don't really help out with anything out here. |
