Ear taping & puppy pad training I have 2 problems. My yorkies are 4-1/2 months old. Their ears flop. The vet says no taping. Should I? Will they stand on their own? Second problem--I have been locking "the girls" up in the kitchen with a baby gate and putting puppy pads down. One will pee and poop on the pads. The other goes where she goes. When I let them out, they both go crazy and pee & poop everywhere. What top do? |
I have taped both of mine's ears and it is working. I tape them for 3 days and then take the tape out and leave them alone until they fall and then I tape again for 24 hours and continue to do this until they stay. right now they each have 1 ear taped.. as for the puppy pads, i do not use those cause I do not want mine to get used to going inside at all. but when i was doing that the first 3 days they were the same way. it was as if they each wanted their own pad.. and I would not let them out of the kitchen unless they have just gone potty and you are going to be right there with them every second or until they have no accidents in the kitchen at all..but I'm no expert on housetraining at all cause I am trying to do it myself.. good luck, I hope it works out.. oh, and here is a link to the instructions I used to tape my pups ears.....http://members.cox.net/jrogan/ears.html |
I'd go ahead and tape the ears. What I do is shave the inner and outer ear completely taking off all fringe (no, not very attractive but you want as much weight off as possible and besides, the hair will grow back). I then fold the ear long way like a taco and tape with medical tape. I leave on for 24 hours and take off. Ears should stand and if they fall, repeat the method. As for the pee pads, the kitchen area may be too big for your girls. I'd get an ex-pen and lay 2 pee pads in there. There is plenty of room for them to lay on the other side. Potty training takes time and some will catch on quick while others seem to never "get" it. |
No advice on the taping as we haven't ever had to. Sorry. But I agree that you're giving the girls too much space while potty-training. We crate trained first, and then moved into the kitchen, and now, with Coby at 7 months are beginning to give him more freedom. Also, we have two dogs and they do not use the same puppy pads. They actually seem a little disgusted with each other's pads. So I'd also try two pads. Maybe your second girl is jealous and would love her own pad!! ;) |
