Does anyone else still use Greenies? I know, I know I have read all the posts here and on the internet about the evil of Greenies and its not like I doubt them, but then why do vets still say they are okay. I am so torn about this. I would not want to do anything to hurt my baby but this is her favorite treat. After the initial scare, I stopped using them, but when they remade the formula, I checked with my vet and he said they were fine. He said just to keep an eye on them and not leave them alone with the Greenie. I usually try to take it away if I can when it gets down to a little piece. Am I the only one who still uses them, and do you think the new formula makes them any safer. Thanks. Laura |
I haven't given Lacy a greenie in a very long time. I think it was mostly because I used to get hers at the dog boutique I worked at and we quit carrying them after that report came out. I don't know if I would never give her one again...I just haven't bought any. |
Personally I don't feel comfortable giving them to mine anymore. Wes is a strong chewer and would be able to bite big chunks off so I wouldn't give them to him. Maddie would probably be fine with them. But I can't give something to one and not the other. It would start a war. |
They reformulated them a while ago to be easier to digest. I think it is like any chew or toy though-- you need to be mindful of your dog and their chewing habits. If I give Penny a greenie or a rawhide, she chews it for a bit, hides it, comes back later, chews it a little more, hides it again-- they often last her days and days, so I'm pretty confident that however much she is ingesting at any given time is a small enough amount to pass through her system without problems. I know other dogs that try to wolf the things down whole-- and those dogs I would worry about, easy-to-digest formula or not. |
I think the main reason I don't give Lacy greenies is because they don't last long at all. She eats it within just a couple minutes. It would be different if it was something she chewed on for a long time like her bully stix but it's like giving her a treat instead of something to chew on. And I don't like to give her too many treats |
I haven't given Chip a greenie since he finished the only bag we ever purchased. I used to give him the petite, and he just chomped through it like a regular biscuit, no teeth cleaning involved. Since then I have discovered bully sticks which he is a freak over, he loves them and last a whole lot longer. |
I still give Emmy greenies, but NEVER a whole one. I cut it in pieces. When I give her a treat she get a small piece of one. If I gave her whole ones she'd weigh 50 pounds! I personally have not had any problems with them and Emmy loves them. My vet also gives them to her dogs. I tried bully sticks but Emmy turned her nose up at it. |
I only used greenies once, and they didn't seem to like them. |
Here and there I give a greenie to Lulu but I always keep an eye on it. She plays and puts it away and so on. When I see it get to a small piece I chuck it. |
Greenies were Bellas favorite! I have not givin them to her since they said how bad they were...Does anyone know the brand that was re-formulated for easier digestion?? She would just pee down her leg if I handed her one again! |

We no longer use them. Our babies loved them but we are afraid to go there again. |
