How old is old enough?????
 
lol...What a title. My BFF(as my daughter calls her) has 2 females-sisters that are approx 4-5 yrs of age. One of them is in heat. She also has a little boy that is approx 7 months. The little boy is going nuts. He has been trying to get to her and she has been letting him try.

The question is: Can he still impregnate her if his little balls are not totally down. I told her I thought he could...She does not think he can.

So I am asking for all you experienced owners....What do you think?

He definitely might be able to get her pregnant. But she shouldn't be breeding a male so young. He's not fully mature yet - a dog idealy shouldnt be bred until two years of age. Because at that time you can evaluate the dog for both conformation and genetic soundness. At 7 months, you just can't really do that...

This is/was a total accident situation. She is planning on having him fixed. She was waiting so that they could do his puppy teeth and neuter at the same time. And her girl came in early so she was not expecting it either.

Oh Okay I was confused because when I read "He has been trying to get to her and she has been letting him try." I took that to meant the owner was letting him try. But you meant the female was letting him try. If he's able to penetrate her, there is a chance he could get her pregnant so she should keep them seperated.

She has them in separate rooms now. She is really beating herself up over this. To her knowledge- they never were locked together..He was trying like heck and she was letting him go for it. Of course, they had most of the day. So we just need to keep our fingers crossed.

I think she is calling the vet Monday morning for a neuter/dental.

From what I hear on YT they don't have to penetrate to inpregnate. good advice but not all right:)


HallTx1203... I hope that your friends Female is not PG and so you know a male can still get a female PG for up to a month after the are neutered acording to my vet.....

Really? I know they don't have to tie, but don't they have to at least penetrate the female and ejaculate? I know there are crazy cases in humans where supposedly the male and female were having "non-penetrating" sex (or heavy making out or whatever) and somehow the semen was able to migrate up the vaginal canal and get the girl pregnant, but that is so rare. Semen isn't that good at surviving outside the body. I guess it would be possible for that to happen in dogs too, but I don't think there would be much chance of pregnancy if he didn't at least penetrate somewhat

Really well you do seem to have more knowledge Than most about alot of matters. So You go right ahead;) But YES it Can happen :)

Okay, I may not be a Yorkie Expert, but I am a vet student so I do know quite a bit about dogs in general. And it would be very very rare for a dog to get pregnant without any penetration happening. Although dogs do get pregnant often without an actual tie taking place. Maybe those on here that thought no penetration took place just didn't see it. I'm not saying it's in no way possible, but it would be a very rare case
