Help! I'm taking care of Tink (my boss' dog) over the weekend. Rosie and my older sister's dog are so jealous. Rosie snaps at Tink and would not take treats from anyone, even her fav treats. What should I do? I want to play with Tink, but I don't want to make Rosie more jealous. Also, we tell her no firmly when she snaps, but I don't know if I should since she's jealous. Please someone help! I can't handle it this weekend. She won't even play:eek: That's a huge shock since she always plays. |
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time! I'm no expert, but I'm pretty strict (I'm a teacher... I guess it goes with the territory!) so I'd keep telling the dog NO when she snaps. I'd also make sure to give her lots of attention for good behavior, and not just for bad, or all she'll do is be naughty to get your attention. Maybe try to play ball with both of them? Or, try another game that the snappy dog likes and introduce Tink to it. LOTS of praise for both dogs is important when they're doing what you want (behaving!), but I'm sure you already know that! Good luck! |
Rosie isn't really misbehaving other than snapping every once in a while. She's just real sad and it breaks my heart seeing her like this. I haven't seen her not play or eat her peanut butter treats. |
It might take a while for them to all settle in. Yours might feel like she's being replaced so pay extra attention to her. If she snaps at Tink put her in time out. |
Ok. Thank you. I will do that. We've been feeding the Rosie and my sister's dog first too and letting in and out of the house first. I also let Rosie sleep by me while Tink was in her crate. Anything else I can do? |

Hope someone has some ideas for you.;) |
This is the first time they met. I will try taking them outside. Thanks! Wish me luck since Tink is not trained on her leash yet.:) |
I'm not even giving Tink any attention; however, if I smell like Tink, Rosie will sniff me and push away. For example, I Tink a bath because she stepped in her pee. Then I tried to cuddle Rosie like I normally do. Rosie pushed away, sat further from me, and smelled me with a disgusted look on her face. |

Best of luck to you. Hugs! |
Thanks. It's not better this morning. I don't know why we didn't meet them outside. I wasn't thinking. Oh well. |
