Bath-Time We have washed Belle 2/3 times now since we got her 3 weeks ago. She doesn't really like it though (tries to get out). Should I just persist, and will she start to enjoy it, or what do I do? Do any of you use a hair-dryer or would that scare the life out of her? |
you just have to keep with it. My yorkie is 2 now and he still doesn't like bath time... he just stands there and puts up with it. lol. Oh, and I don't blowdry him.. I tried once and I was scared of it being too hot on him, eventhough I did it on the cold setting. lol |
Okay great. I don't want to make her miserable, but at the same time, I want to keep her nice. |
Only one of mine likes a bath...she thinks it's spa day! Bath day around here is nuts but I just get it done. I do blow dry mine. |
Mine get bathed once a week. Nether one of them like it. I let them air dry |
Thanks a mil. I was afraid to persist, in case I scarred her for life. "Its bath-time tonight so Belle!!!!" |
Meka gets a bath about once a week or so... She doesnt like it either... And I towel dry her and then let her do the rest... She hates the blow dryer. |
Lulu is 11 months and still hates bath time. I have to hold her with one hand and wash with the other..oy vey. You would think it was something new to her. I have only had her since she was 8 weeks old and bathing her weekly. I do let her air dry but now that it's getting colder I will have to wip out the dryer on her. I had a male that loved loved the attention. He so loved his spa day. If I would bathe Lulu first he would be right there at my foot banging into me like me me me. |
Bella hated baths when i first got her! She squirmed and wiggled and whined, but now she just puts up with me giving her a bath once a week. I do use the blow dryer on her. I started the first time i bathed her and and almost everytime since then....I tried letting her air dry, but she just gets too cold and shivers! I usually use the warm setting and hold it about 12 inches from her so i dont burn her. Now she loves the blow dryer! she lays out on the floor and just lets me dry her! its hilarious! |

Here's hoping Belle will have the same attitude!!! |
harley is 8 months and hates bath time! i dont think hell ever like it. but i do blow his hair dry, which he loves. use a low setting and low heat. even when im blow drying my hair he sits underneath me. |
Yeah my Winston doesn't particularly like baths but he tolerates them. Sometimes he tries to climb out but I just hold him in there. He seems to do best though when I'm either in the bathtub with him or if I put my feet in with him. |
I think they all hate it Tede climbs up my chest ,claws all the way out:eek: He just cant stand any thing on his paws like a comb, but i do it any way. I found to dry him in the cold weather I have one of those oscillating heaters Hes use to that. I put him in his cage and let that go for a while. He likes the warm. This is after he runs all over the house and tries to dry himself on all the furniture:mad:  |
Some of them just don't like baths... Pepper is 16 months and for the past 13 months or so I gave him a bath every week. You'd think he'd learn to enjoy it by now, I always give him treats, a lot of kisses and gentle treatment. No  . if I don't catch him before I start running the water, he hides under the bed where I can't reach him and will stay there for hours. He hates the blowdryer too, but would get too tangled trying to dry himself on the carpet. |
Those of you who are bathing weekly, what are you doing to keep the skin from getting dried out? I have been bathing Winstin every two weeks with a nice shampoo that I got at one of our vets. He is itching and it seems to me that his skin and hair is a bit dry in those areas. He mainly does it to his back legs. I have noticed that after a week he looks like he needs a bath and it makes me nuts. Should I try one of the shampoos that are for allergy type dogs? I know the vet carries some. I don't know, maybe its just the puppy itch. |
Kai gets his bath every sunday evening. He used to jump and scratch at the sink but he doesn't mind it now and I have even moved to the tub. after his bath I wrap him up and snuggle with him for a few minutes then we go back in the bathroom and he get blow-dried on medium/cool heat (mine dryer has an adjustment) if he does good when he is being dried and doesn't try to jump around or bite the air I will put him down on the floor when I am done and blow the air all around him and he likes to jump at it and try to "eat" the air.. It is absolutely adorable! and this way he doesn't think of his bath as a chore because he gets to snuggle up with mommy and play when its all over.. just keep it up! your baby will get used to it <333 :aimeeyork |
I bathe all of mine once a week, and usually let them air dry. If it get's cold and I have to blow dry them I let them sniff the dryer first, and put it on slow and low heat. |
Do you bathe them in the sink or bath tub? I got my little Rusty last weekend and I am planning on giving him his first bath this weekend. Generally speaking he does not like to get wet, so i'm sure he won't like the bath. But, hopefully he will somewhat enjoy it:aimeeyork |
We gave Belle a bath last night. I wouldn't say she "enjoyed" it but she was a lot more tolerating of it than the last two. I think she will learn to like it. I made it nice and warm. Just did the towel dry then, and brushed her. They really do turn out lovely after a wash don't they?? |
I have always heard that you should not brush their hair while wet (it increases breakage).. instead brush it just before their bath and also not to rub them or scrub with the towel to dry their fur.. i used to do that when i first got kai because i wanted his hair to dry so he wouldnt be cold but now I just hold him for about thirty minutes or so until its almost dry and then blow dry it the rest of the way and his hair is sooo much softer...:aimeeyork also while your yorkie is still a tiny little baby i would wash him in the sink with warm water.. also I like to use a cup to pour water on kai's back so that its not too much. as they get older and you feel more comfy with your baby move to the tub.:aimeeyork .. i hope this helps a little.. |
Cody hates baths and he hates for me to use the blow dryer so i brush him until he is dry and fluffy! |

Im not saying your wrong but many on here say that brush them always while they are wet never whiles they are dry or dirty! that causes breakage! i actually comb mine while the conditioner is in and after the bath.(while they are still wet) |
Teddy HATED his baths in the begining but soon realized that I was going to do it no matter what so he resigns himself. He even comes and sits at my feet when he sees me getting the bath ready...then when I bend over to pick him up he has a look of dread. LOL I do think they will fight you until they realize that you are going to do it no matter what. If you let them win then they know a good fit will get them out of whatever it is they don't want to do...just like skin kids! LOL Kim |

Bella isn't a bath fan! I tried to dry her the first time on a cool setting and I think I scared her to death. Now I just let her air dry! :) |
As far as blow drting goes. I think if they never hear one and then you try to use it on them it will scare them. I knew I wanted to use it on Teddy so I would have him in the bathroom with me every day when I blow dryed my own hair. After hearing it every day for weeks by the time I used it on him he was fine with it. Kim |

This may sound dumb- but you comb their hair while the conditioner is still on them? And then rinse???? |
