Replacing a Yorkie. How can it be done?
 

I see everyone on here with lots of Yorkies and after one passes they can get another one. My question how can you do it? When Toby goes I honestly will never be able to replace him. Everything about him can't be replaced. I don't think I'll be able to own another Yorkie again as much as I love them to death!

When losing one they can never be replaced, but by getting another one , it helps heal your heart. and you then get so you loved this one just as much, but you never forget and stop loving the one you loss.

When my Lab died at age 14 years ago, I swore I'd never get another dog. I went 10 years without. Then Eddie fell into our lives, and he filled a hole I didn't even realize was there.

You shouldn't rush out and get another dog, but I honestly think you need something to do with all the love you had reserved for your beloved pet.

I've even thought about getting a new dog every four years to make sure I'm never without, because I will be crushed when mine go.

you cant replace them like you cant replace a human .. sometimes having somthing to love helps you heal ...sometimes it takes years ...everyones healing is individual i cant visualized my house without my furkids

I think the same thing..I will just get another yorkie in a few years so I will never be without!!!

When I lost my cocker spaniel I couldnt get another one...thats how I decided to get a yorkie...

You can NEVER replace a loved one, human, or pet. After my last yorkie passed, we never wanted another, simply because we never want to feel that pain of losing a baby again.
We gave ourselves time, and a chance to heal, we spoke about it a lot, and after a long time, we remembered all the good times we shared, all the vacations we had together, and places we went. The sharp edges were gone. After looking some time of searching for a breeder, we found a perfect little girl, 3 months later, we added her sister. They DONT replace any of the others we had, but they most definatly make the loss easier.
Another thing that is very comforting, is knowing they had a fantastic life, and we gave them everything they could wish for, and more.

You can never ever replace him but getting another may help you fill a little of the hole he left behind. Dont's rush into it but perhaps if you do get another you couls get a girl so that she would be different to Toby and you woulden't feel as though you were replacing him.

I see it slightly differently as all mine have been rescues, when one dog goes I see it as honouring that little soul by getting another dog. After all if I didn't like the last dog I would hardly rush to repeat the experience whereas it's because I love each one so much I am wanting to do it all over again.

When we lost Muffie (toy poodle) I said I never wanted another dog. I was young when we got her and sill lived at home. My mom found her and she was a beautiful cinnamon color. We bought her for me and a black one for my sister. The breeder appeared to be wonderful. Well, we tend to believe there was some inbreeding going on. Muffie was a handful and had health issues. One day (several years after we got her and I was married) hubby told her to go potty. She tried to attack his foot, I mean growling and all. She had known him since the day I brought her home, as we were highschool sweet hearts. She hated any groomer I took her to and you could not trust her with anyone. Needless to say we did have to let her go. That was heartbreaking. I told my husband I never wanted another dog. This was in May of 99 and in November we ran across Sable and I melted. Sable is now eight and I love her so much (although she is hubbies girl) We now have three dogs. None of them could ever replace my Muffie but I know so much more about dogs now than I did then. When I run across her picture, I still cry. Each one holds a special place in my heart. I really can't imagine life without my babies. You don't get another dog to replace the one you have, you just let your heart grow so you can love another one.

I had a lab mix when my oldest son was a baby. When he died it just tore me up. I didn't get another dog until my son was 30 years old. I don't believe you replace a pet or a person, but I believe humans beings have an endless capacity for love and need a direction for that love. What better way than a yorkie?

I have never lost a yorkie. I cannot say that getting Diggy wasnt part of the whole thought process when thinking what is something ever happened to Bella?? I can get myself all panicy and freaked out thinking about it. With 2, I will have one left behind with me and hopefully that will make mourning a lil easier. Good post tho and I am interersted in replies

well said and kinda the point I was making....I too do not think you replace a dog when they pass...that part of your heart will FORVER be with that dog I do believe you can learn to deal with the pain as I dont think it EVER goes away. All I can say is if ANYTHING ever happens to Bella or Diggy....I hope you all come hold my hand and help me to stand because I will seriously be a disaster.

When you lose a pet there is an obvious void physically and mentally. If you get another pet its more of filling a void rather than replacement. Personalities can't be replaced, but discovering the personality of another pet is part of the fun. Before Chip came to live with me I was totally against having a dog, but now I can't imagine him not being here. I think I have more seperation anxiety than he does when I go out. :embarasse

When I lost my Annie-Belle I swore I'd never get another yorkie. Never. After a few months I began to think about everything I missed about having a yorkie. The way they smile, brushing their hair, little bows and ribbons, etc.

I spent some time with the breeder I got Annie-Belle from just to see if I could handle another yorkie or if it was going to be hard on me emotionally. When I first saw Susanah I was not impressed. I thought she was the ugliest little thing I'd ever seen (don't tell her that). Then I was bathing her and getting her ready to take some pictures and she reached up and gave me a kiss and we've been together ever since. Now I think she's the most beautiful thing on 4 legs!
