bully stick?? I sit for hours enjoying all the yorkie talk threads so much that i have burnt dinner many times thinking i would just sit at the computer for a minute..... I often read others referring to their babies bully stick. What exactly is a bully stick? Is it a chew toy? My husband came home today and threw all the raw hides into the trash because someone told him that they are so awful for your dogs because they soften as they chew but harden after digested and can cut their intestine and their schnuzzer had a very expensive surgery to repair damage to her intestine from a raw hide chew. |
Yes, Bully Sticks are treats. They are made from bulls. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bully_stick Many people give them to their babies instead of rawhide. It is truth that rawhide is indigestable, so it is not a good choice for your babies. Hope that helps :) |
LOL - The first time I heard of them I wondered the same thing!! They are "like" rawhides but they are made from the muscle fibers of bulls (please someone correct me if I'm wrong). They are safer for your baby than rawhide, and they really really REALLY love them. (They still get gross like rawhides tho). Rawhides are very dangerous - I had a very close call with one once. But can someone explain WHY they are better for them than rawhides? |
Bully sticks are made from bull penis.....and they are supposed to be better than rawhide - but I don't know why. Maybe someone knows?? And yes, gross, but it really is made from bull penis.... |
Bully stix are made from bulls penis and sometimes muscle tendon. They are 100% beef and 100% digestible, unlike rawhides. They are stringy when chewed and don't break off in chunks like rawhides do. They digest a lot easier than rawhides do. Lacy loves them! I don't think they get nearly as gross as rawhides either, and I think they last longer. |
We cant get bully sticks here, we have only raw hide and tripe sticks to choose from. Are tripe sticks ok?? They stink really bad but my babies love them!!!! I dont want to give them something they love that might hurt them also what about pork, pigs ears and stuff we have those too are they ok??? |
Chip loves bully sticks, I give him small rawhide sticks too but now he only chews on them when he is done with his bully stick. http://www.bullysticksonline.com sells them in bulk and carry the free range odor free variety. They do cost significantly more then rawhides though. Bully sticks are great for helping clean their teeth, easily digestible, and supposedly low in fat. |

Bully Sticks are not the best thing to give a dog. They can get diarrhea from whatever they are coating them with, not to mention all the chemicles sprayed on them to keep them from rotting on the shelves. Dogs only need to chew on something hard like a beef marrow bone which can't be eaten. |

Age you can give them Bully sticks? I bought a whole bunch of bully sticks but have yet to give them to my Bitsy because she's still so young at 12 weeks old. When is it safe to give it to her? |
