THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE GREAT ADVICE AND THE WARM WELCOME!!!!! :thumbs up Mia is my first dog ever so I just want the best for her. Hopefully Ill be able to get out of work early to take her to the Vet. I got her from a couple that has Mias parents. They are not full time yorkie breeders. There 2 Yorkies had puppies and sold them and I was lucky enough to get Mia. Mias parents were nice looking but not indoor dogs, they had them outside. I guess thats where Mia might have gotten her ticks. I got no papers no nothing with Mia. I just hope I didnt bite off more than I can chew with little Mia. I love little Mia!!!! Thanks for all your help!! I should be in here in a couple of hours asking more ???'s THANKS CHRIS |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congrats on the new baby! She should have already had one round of shots (I believe) at 6 weeks...so you aren't that far behind. Take her to the vet ASAP and they will let you know what she needs. Generally it is good practice to take your new puppy to the vet right away anyway for a check-up. She should be on solid food. I personally like Iams Puppy and I would suggest you feed her 3 times a day. Mine stopped eating her 3rd meal at some point and we then went down to 2 times a day For toys I started with a blue dental Nylabone, a small stuffed squeeky toy, & a rubber squeeky ball. (you can always get more later...but that way she has a variety to play with). I buy Miracle Coat tearless puppy shampoo. It may not be the best but it is somewhat inexpensive and a good place to start until you have more time to experiment with brands. I use a wire brush (the kind with the protective plastic balls on the end of each bristle) and a metal comb. For a bed I have one of those cloth-lined shallow baskets from walmart and put a fleece blanket in it (the baskets come in a set of 2 and the other one is her toy box). Some more must-haves are: bowl set (china or stainless steel), a crate (Kennel Kab brand is inexpensive and works very well), a collar/leash/harness, an ID tag, baby gates to block off areas you don't want her to go, NutriCal in case she shows any weakness or symptoms of hyploglycemia, toothbrush and toothpaste (I recomend a rubber finger style brush and PetDental toothpaste). Since she is so young, I would flea shampoo her for a few more weeks. She shouldn't be picking up any more since she shouldn't be out of your house until she gets her shots. Once she has all of her shots, then I would try Frontline Plus |

PS. When you take her to the vet...take a bag of poopoo for worm testing. :) |

Hi! Just wanted to check in to see if little Mia went to the doggy doctor? Did he answer all the questions we missed (ha, like there were any). Hope we at least gave you enough information to find out what you need to ask the vet. Have you been to the store yet? That's my favorite part. I love buying 'stuff' for my babies. |

I'm going to go into MOM mode here and get a little tough. Your first priority should be getting that pup that is full of ticks to the vet. Have you been trying to remove them with tweezers? This is very important. Next point is how many hours a day is the puppy alone? She is so very young and should have as much human contact as possible. Is there anyone that can come over or family members that you can take her to? A dog like this is a lot of responsibility and a lot of people get them because they are cute, and they are, but you have to be prepared to put the time, effort and $$$ into their upkeep. We are all trying to help you here because the pup is sooooo young, you need to take responsibility and even just go on your lunchbreak. She also needs to start with her shots. Please for the sake of your pup, get it together!!! |

I would actually go for something more like a cat carrier. make sure there's something soft for her to lay on and cuddle with. oh yes yorkies love squeaky toys.the squeakier the better!!! leave her in her crate when you go out and at night. you might want to get some books on yorkies from the library or something. welcome to YT |

I understand Chewysmon your right!!! My dads nephew is a Vet but the only bad thing he is a vet in Juarez, Mexico. I live in El Paso, Tx which is a border town. I could take Mia to him but since I dont have any papers for her Im scared they wont let me bring her back into the US. When I go to work Mia is with my wife When she leaves to school she drop Mia off at her moms house were her brother takes care of her. After she gets out of school she picks Mia up and brings her back home. We have had Mia for about 3 days now and we have only left her alone for no more than 2 hours at time. I know our schedule is going to become more hectic but we are trying not to leve Mia alone for a long period of time. Its been a hard 3 days all I can do is take it one day at a time. We love Mia, since Mia is my first dog ever I fell lost. I know I didnt do my homework on Yorkies but Im trying to get as much info as I can. Thats why I truly appreciate all the advice all the members give me. If you guys have any more info are suggestions or hear about a great new product for Yorkies or news please feel free to PM me or email me at chris.barron@us.yazaki.com . |

I just wanted to tell you congrats on your beautiful Mia and say that I agree with everything that everyone has said. You need to get the baby to the vet ASAP because of the ticks especially because they carry diseases, and when left on there too long they will transmit them. It's decently rare, but still a possibility. Pick them out as best you can, and remember to get the heads out! |

I got her from some people that have a set of Yorkies and there yorkies had 3 female pups. I bought Mia she was the last of the litter. These people are not breeders, ther dogs just had puppies and they couldnt afford keeping them. |

My advice to you is to go out tomorrow to a bookstore and buy any book specifically about Yorkies. The next thing is to go to a vet in your area. Don't take her to Mexico. Please assure us that these will be your priorities tomorrow. |
