Hello 1 Attachment(s) First of all Hello to you all. I am completely new here as you can see. When should I start house training my Yorkie and what is the best way to go about this? When can I start teaching her a few commands? Also, once or twice she has let a little growl out of her when you go to pick her up, how can I prevent this? |
Hi, :welcome4: . You will love YT. Lots of friendly people with tons of experience with Yorkies. Your baby is a doll! :) She is really sweet. How old is she? Bella is 12 weeks and we are working on potty training now. So far, we have found she is most successful when she is in a more confined area. If she has access to the whole house she has accidents. At night (and when we are not home), she has her own bathroom that contains her crate, pee pee pad, food and water and toys. She is doing a great job with the potty training during these times. I stay home during the day and try to keep her close to me with a pad available in the room we are in. Same thing in the evenings when my kids and husband are home and we are playing with her. We haven't started any commands yet. Is the growl friendly, like she is playing? Good luck and keep us posted! :) |
Welcome to YT! You can start housebreaking as soon as you have her. You need to decide if you want her going inside or out? Those little growls are part of them playing, and trying to get your attention. Do not pay attention to the growling, or they will do it everytime they want you to play with them. Wait till they stop, and then either pick them up, or play with them. You can start teaching commands as soon as you want. Their attention span isn't very long as puppies, but if you try it for 10 minutes at a time, a few times a day you should make some progress. Hope this helps you. |
Hi and welcome to YT! It's nice to have you with us.... hop right in, and enjoy yourself. How old is your baby? |
Hello and welcome aboard. New life, how precious. Just don't yell or scold your baby. Positive training works!!!! Negative training does not!!!! Don't let her have freedom in the house while being house trained. Before I can give you advice on how to house train I need to know if she is going to be spending time alone while you work, and if so, how long. |
Welcome to the YT and congrats on your new furbaby! In my opinion you need to start training from day one. You have to be consistant and make sure she knows "your in charge". Meka is mainly a house pup and I train her with "pup pads", however, I also take her for walks so that she's "cross trained". Its whatever is best for you/your pup... You'll definately find answers here... Good luck! |
Hi and welcome to YT .. your baby is adorable (love that bed) both of mine are piddle pad trained ... and it just seemed to happen .... (Oh okay, there have been accidents) ... just pick her up and place her on the piddle pad when you think she needs to go (or if she "pops the stance"), say "Pee-Pee?" and then praise her immensely .... that "growling" will go away as long as she gets her sleep ..... tell her "Stop" and then hug her .... lotsa love and praise (and treats) ... good luck |
Hi, Welcome to YT! you have a beautiful baby! |
Welcome, welcome and enjoy YT.;) |
Hi ye, how are things on the atlantic coast?? Our pixie had puppies last year we started trying to train them from the about 4-5 weeks, when they were heading to their new homes they would go on pee pads and would stay on command!!! All the gang here are fantastic i never miss a day poppin in to say hello!!! |
She is 12 weeks old on Friday (so she's getting her injections on Friday:eek: ). She is kept in a cordened off area in our kitchen (about 7ftx5ft) between 9am and 3pm, while we are both at work. The last two nights she has not even wet her pee pad! I get up a 7am and bring her for a walk and then again at 8am. Yesterday morning, she went out and had a pee and poop. This morning, just a pee (she was about to poo but I had to bring her inside as my wife got locked into the shower!!!! and of course the inevitable happened and she pooped inside). She already seems to have copped that outside is where to go toilet, but how do I get her to tell me "Hey, I need to go out" because at the moment I'm watching her like a halk for the signals!!! I bring her out every hour. The growl she does isn't a playful growl (she does the wee playful growl too, that, I don't mind). She's maybe done it three times since we got her (3 weeks ago). In each case it is where we'd go to pick her up, but you'd be afraid to pick her up. At the same time, I'm afraid not to pick her up because I don't want her thinking growling at me or my partner is in any way acceptable. |

Ideally (or eventually), I don't really want her using the pee pad while we are there. I would prefer to teach her to say "Bring me out"!!!! |
Hi ye, she will do the "let me out" in time. My three make this high pitched whine and pace, you just have to watch her they do a lot of sniffing just before they go because they are looking for the right spot. If you need any info bout stuff in ireland im in Laois just send me a message!!! Best of luck with the wedding plans we just got married last year!! |
