Can more than 1 yorkie be raised in the same house? I've just got 2 7wk old yorkies. 2 males from the same litter. I've been on many websites and one particular one has scared me to death. Is it so impossible or difficult to raise two puppies together? Pls help! |
You can raise two together with no problems, well not to many.... |
I have 5! Life's a hoot! |
I have two that have had since they were puppies. I really didnt think it was that diffcult |
I have two, no problems. You just have to spend time with each of them. |
Thanks so much guys! By the way, just if you're interested, I'm not in the US, but in Mauritius! I've had my puppies since last Friday and they are so great! I guess the difficulty is potty training, and watching their health, diet, etc. But since Friday night we're learning a lot. Lots of things are coming by trial and error. Their second visit to the vet is in 1 month. Anyway I'll keep posted. |
I have 2 that are 3 months apart in age, they are a blast to have around!! 2 at the same time is double work, and it's a challenge, but once they passed the puppy stage, it only gets better!! |
Not impossible at all infact most members here have multiples! 7 weeks!!! whoa....be careful there...Thats really young and babies that young are very prone to hypoglycemia! Maybe you already know about it but wanted to throwit out there just encase so u can be prepared! Good luck with your boys and hope to see pics soon! |

Welcome To Yorkie Talk. There's alot of good people here & great information. Life is wonderful, you can do just about anything you want to. If you want to raise 2 beautiful boys together then just do it. Then you'll have the expierience of their lives to help others. You probably will need a lot of patience & love. Just when you think they'll never grow up....they do. Have fun!!!!!!! |
I've read about that. We are being very careful with their diet. Actually in Mauritius rice is mainly consumed, so what I'm doing is that I'm adding canned fish/tuna, ect in he rice and feeding them for dinner. For breakfast they are having milk and bread (soaked in the milk). The milk is very light coz the breeder said they could be taken off milk in the next couple of weeks. Pls advise coz I'm sure I must be doing something wrong... |
Nope I cannot say your doing a thing wrong at all! I didnt mean to scare you at all and with many mini meals throughout the day any signs of hypo can be eliminated. 1 of my yorkies had it and one didnt...I was not educated about it and turned into the toughest time of my life....To avoid hypo do not let them go more than 4 hours without something in their bellies....thats usually it! :) Maybe have nutrical on hand encase they just dont feel like eating to supplement :) Pretty easy huh?? Do you have pics of ur boys...we are all addicted to fur baby pictures! If you need help posting them let me know I will help. |
2 Attachment(s) CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW PUPS............two is great, they keep each other company. I have two malts and a yorkie. WELCOME TO YT!!! Attachment 149792Attachment 149793 |
I'm raising two Yorkies, one Biewer and a poodle together. They do have their moments, but for the most part their fine. |
Well I have Yorkie fever!! I have a almost 7 month girl an almost 5 month boy and a 3 month boy and will be bringing home a 8 week girl chorkie soon I am not the one to tell you will be ok. Potty training is a full time good. But the joy of having that much love is worth all the work. |
1 Attachment(s) For all you guys who are giving me such great advices! Brown ear is 'Miles' and black ears is 'Jasz' (pronounced Jazz). Since they are white I'm pretty sure they are not pure Yorkies, but they have at least 90% of the physical characteristics - like I say, except for the colour of the hair. |
Oh my goodness, they are total dolls!!!! Thanks for sharing  :) they are precious! |
Well... shouldnt be a problem... Maybe a bit of a head ache w/ 2 young pups - but not problem! |
Some believe that bringing up siblings is a recipe for disaster http://www.caninedevelopment.com/Sibling.htm Never done it myself so can't comment, mine are each around 12 months apart. |
Yea they are just too cute little angels! Miles had some vomiting today, felt a bit weak. But then we realised that we decided to start feed them like adult dogs, you know, trying to condition them. But that just weakened Miles and later when he had his dinner he was fine. A bit of loose motion, which I'm keeping an eye on, the diet was less fatty, fish soup and rice - no canned dog foods, coz i want my babies to have the taste of real life. This is my one HUGE regret that i didn't feed Bobby, my cat, with real food, he was hooked onto Felix. Unfortunately, today it's one month since we lost him - car accident - just a head injury, and he was gone during the night... I thought I'd get puppies to fill in the emptiness. But now I'm coming to give the pups their fair share of love, coz I'm sure Bobby wants us to be happy again! So here we are, blessed with two gorgeous souls! And Miles has so much in common with Bobby - like as if bobby was dictating him to do things, to give us those loving gazes, kisses, etc! |
Your babies are just beautiful. They look like the Biewer Yorkies. At this age you can also give them some baby food meat and baby food meat sticks. They can eat baby food cereal mixed with some applesauce or pears. Good luck with those babies. I have two Yorkie girls that are 1st cousins and are only 6 weeks apart in age. I would never have only one now. They were quite a bit of work for the first year and half, but looking back, that was the best time of all!! :D |

Welcome to YT. Your babies are lovely. Coco was 6 months when I got Coffee at 10 weeks. I know there is an age difference, but I'm sure you'll do just fine. I'm from South Africa, not too far from you lol. |
Hey that's cool! My boys are enjoying the sun now - they were born in the north of the isalnd where it's always warm, and I live in the upper lands - in winter it's quite cold. Since last week spring has started setting in and it's warm at our place too. in the mornings they just love looking for their favourite spots in the living room coz they get the sun there! That's just after breakfast - today we gave them a little bit of Nestum with milk, it was not thick. After that they went snoozing in the sun. They just love being together, looks like they feel safer. But from time to time they do break apart to be with other people in the family! I'm told off quite often coz I'm spoiling them like anything! The minute they cry I just want to rush to them - happened last night. But they settled down quietly, and so did I! Now I've left them, and I'm at work! Each time I get a minute I'll get in touch with u guys! (I'm a lecturer!) Leena |
Hi! I've attached a pic of my boys. But I don't know how to get them in the corner like all the others! How can I do that? Thanks for helping! Leena |
The problem you're going to have is that they're going to be inseperable most likely. Which is cute, but not healthy. I would highly recommend that you get them okay w/ being seperate from one another from the get go. Like they each have their own crate that they sleep in at night and not together. Or if you have to leave the house that they each have their own space. That'll also help you w/ housebreaking. It's never a good idea to get two puppies from the same litter if you're not the kind of person that will follow rules like what I posted below. |
I have three, a rescue and then got two pups, just remember they are little individuals and like different things take time to figure out what they like. Watch them play and you will see who is alpha of the pair and treat them accordingly. You will be kepy busy but it will be worth it!!!! |
