Dead dogs and investigation Our local news station (in Victoria, TX), News Station 25 ran a report yesterday that there was a mill type situation that is located in Nursery (about 10 minutes from Victoria) on McCormick Drive. The physical address and owner's names were not release pending investigation. There were numerous dogs (looked like Labs) that were tied to the igloo type houses. Neighbors had called numerous times to report cruelty...animals did not have access to water, water than was there is filthy, etc. Nothing was done. Well on the news report last night, 2 dogs have died. They showed one dog on the news dead. Another dog had wrapped itself around the pole so many times that it couldn't get to the water and had been dead for about 3 days. The health department reported that more than likely, there would not be charges brought!!!!! I cannot believe this and I feel that somethin MUST be done to these people and these dogs. The dogs were left at the property!!!! I sent an e-mail to the Houston SPCA since I do believe that they cover our county. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS!!!! I AM INFURIATED!!!!!!!!! |
Wow. That is horrible! |
This does sound outrageous. They must have determined the owners not to be at fault for some reason but I cannot imagine what that would be! Please let us know if you find out more. |
We don't live in a very large town. Maybe the Sheriff's dept doesn't want the hassle. I DON'T KNOW!! I hope that this is something that the SPCA can get involved in. The reason the health department said that more than likely there won't be any charges brought is because the dogs would have to be autopsied. They didn't say anything more than thought. No one wants to pay to have the investigation done properly. Either way, leaving a dead dog laying there 3 days!!! :thumbdown      |
If you send me the email to the Houston SPCA...I will email as well asking that this matter be further looked into |

This is horrible. Why would they not bring charges against the people responsable? |
I emailed them asking them to please look deeper into this case and the abuse that was forced upon these animals. The fact that these people may go unpunished for such atrocities is shameful and unlawful. I hope this helps |

I received this e-mail from the Houston SPCA... Hi Kimberley, Thanks for writing. Victoria is out of our normal service area. If the local law enforcement agency in that area calls us, we will help as much as we can. We suggest you contact the Humane Society or SPCA that is investigating the situation. We apologize that this isn't much advice, but Victoria is out of our general jurisdiction. Houston SPCA staff So, I guess that we'll just have to wait and see how the case is handled. |
Hey Kimberley - It MUST be out of their jurisdiction - I've dealt with the SPCA recently and they went beyond the call...I was so impressed with how fast they came to check a complaint - of course..I emailed them pics with my complaint and it was easy to see it was an emergency - I think whoever IS in charge out there is too busy because in no way could those owners of those dogs NOT be held accountable. If there is abuse at a mill - the owners are who is responsible - I don't think there is any other way to deal with it - Someone needs to investigate that place for sure...It sounds just tragic. If you need help since I'm in Texas - let me know PK ? If you send me the email - I'll forward it to Ernest of the Houston SPCA - he wrote me a letter after I had dealings with him and have spoken to him several times on the phone - |

This is outrageous!!! I don't understand the motivation behind some of these people who can't or just don't take care of their dogs! |
