Best airline to fly on to go get a puppy? Well I decided that I think it would be better to fly and pick up a puppy than have one shipped to me or get one from a breeder that I don't feel totaly comfortable buying from. In your experience what airline did you fly with? How much did it cost? Per person (I would fly down with my mom) and How much was the charge for the dog? Any tips? |
flying American Airlines and US Air (I think they are Southwest now) are good. Usually it costs an extra 50.00 to have the pet ride under the seat with you. Get an airline approved Sherpa and have the breeder get the puppy vet checked with a certificate from the vet no more than 10 days before the flight. Check the airlines for all the info on flying with your dog. Good luck, Lynn |

The cost for you to fly depends on the cities where you are flying between. |

Best Airline Yes, jetBlue does allow pets to fly but be careful to get the smallest Sherpa possible (with a Yorkie pup shouldn't be a problem!). jetBlue seats sit a bit lower, but they are wonderful about letting you fly a pet with you. I've taken Gracie across country with me on jetBlue. I think they do charge $50 (as do most airlines). BTW I do not think Southwest accepts pets as they do not assign seats. They are not the same airline as USAir--they are separate airlines. |
I tried one airline and just for one person without a dog or anyone else it would cost 200+ I am going to try jetblue now and see how much it would cost |
hi I sent my brother a maltese puppy he purchased from a breeder here in Miami. He lives in NYC.My kids were going on vacation to NY so I sent the puppy with them.I used Delta and they also charged an extra $50. The only thing is that there are only 2 pets allowed on the plane. So you have to book in advance and let them know that you are traveling with the puppy.I made the mistake of letting them know at the airport and luckily there was only one other pet.So I got lucky.Another airline(not sure which one it was)Charged my sister the axact airfare for her dog.She ended up paying $180 round trip .Now that was a ripoff. |
I flew Delta and had a great experience with them... they also charged $50 and I did make reservations way in advance, just to be sure... I was also able to use frequent flyer miles for my ticket so my cost was only $50.. and a MILLION in "no stress" because I was scard to ship her too..... d |
I brought Rambo from Dallas to San Diego via American Airlines - charged me 80.00 one way. He did great sleeping at 3 months old. I've had friends who give their pups/dogs a sedative so they sleep the whole way. I will do this when I go back to Dallas to visit family. He hates being in the crate and will go nuts barking, so to avoid angry passengers, I will give him something to chill him out. You can go to any airline's website and search "traveling with pets" |
Whatever you do, don't go Northwest. NIGHTMARE!!! |
I have flown Continental and AirTran. Both were really good experiences. Have a friend who's a stewardess for AirTran and they said that if you call the dog an 'emotional support' pet, the puppy can sit in your lap the whole trip and they can't do anything about it. They said you don't need paperwork or anything to prove it's an 'emotional support' pet. You just have to say it. I have always paid around $80 for the puppy's fare. Good luck! |

Don't use Delta. They were a shear nightmare for me. I'd try Continental. I've always found them to be a good airlines. |

I had the opposite experience with Delta. No problems....and the head stewerdess even came back to my seat to see Reese. No one around us even knew there was a puppy on board. Delta allowed FOUR pets flying in the cabin, most others it was two. Puppy "airfare" was $50 to fly across country. Btw, Southwest does not allow pets in their cabins. You can checked each airlines website individually for information. You'll need to telephone in your reservations vs on line...so you can reserve pup's place. The fee isn't paid until you check in with the airline on the flight that puppy's actually traveling. At least it wasn't with Delta. |
