Linus Update! I had the absolute worst experience at the vet!!!!!! I called 2 emergency vets and they both said that it was a hypoglycemic seizure and that I shoudn't worry about taking him in if I was giving him nutrical. That's why I posted about whether I should take him or not. So when he didn't stop I just started going. Got to the 1 emergency vet that I didn't call, and the first thing they say to me is that they need payment before they can do anything. That should have been a red flag but he was still shaking and the others were so much farther away that I wasn't taking any chances. So I pay the money and they finally take him back. The vet tech came in and Linus got so scared that he peed on the table. Then, the tech examined him and took his temperature (103.4 very high). The vet then proceeded to wipe the anal thermometer with a paper towel and placed it back into the drawer. He then gave me Linus and wiped his pee off with a paper towel (no cleaning whatsoever). The doctor comes in and looks him over and says that they need to do blood work. Fine with me...but before they would do it I had to write them another check. Because Linus is still shaking, I do it. They then took him back to get his bloodwork, and it made me pretty angry that they wouldn't let me come back with him. I'm standing in the hallway with 2 doors in between him and me, and I can hear him screaming like I have never heard before. He did that 7 TIMES! They only needed 2 things of blood so I don't know what happened to him back there. The vet then brings him back out CARRYING HIM BY HIS NECK!!!!!! I was so pissed off at this point that I had to go outside before I killed somone. Bryan took care of whatever needed to be, and we waited for the blood results. The vet tech comes back out and has the audacity to tell me that his bloodwork is normal when I can clearly see that it isn't by looking at the paper in his hand. He tells me it's either a hypoglycemic seizure or a behavior problem. A behavior problem???????? Who in their right mind would think that I don't know what my dog does when he gets cold!?!? So at this point, I just wanted out of there. He's quit shaking, but won't eat even his favorite foods. So I keep pushing some nutrical into his mouth and Bryan is on his way to but a syringe so we can give him water so he doesn't get dehydrated. He's exhausted, and walking around like he doesn't recognize where he is. I'm keeping a very close eye on him, and if anything gets worse I will speed down the highway to another 24 hour vet to get him treated. Believe me, my vet will be on my phone the minute they open in the morning. As for now, we are watching and praying that things don't get worse. What a night! Sorry to vent but I am so mad right now I can't stand it. The sad thing is that we got bad news yesterday when we went to the vet. Linus has collapsing trachea syndrome and luxating patella (neither of which are serious enough to warrant treatment right now, but could get worse). Poor baby has been through so much. Thanks for all of the good thoughts! I really appreciate everyone here! |
Oh no, your poor sweetheart. I cannot believe that vets office, how rude. Daisy and I are sending healing vibes your way for Linus. |
Poor little Linus!! What an awful experience for the little guy. I can never understand why people are not a little more compassionate. I hope linus has no more problems tonite and you take him to your vet in the AM. I would also inform your vet of the way Linus was treated at the clinic. I do have a couple of questions, you said you could clearly see his bloodwork was not normal? What did you mean? Has he had hypogycemic episodes in the past? How old is he and how big? Just trying to figure it out... Have you tried giving him just some boiled chicken yet? Let us know what happens with your regular vet tomorrow and good luck. Hugs to Linus. |
Poor baby, sometimes these experiences can be so frustrating! Im so sorry but we are thinking about you guys. On a better now, did you get the harness :D |
OMG I was freaking out while reading what happened to your baby! I dont understand why you couldnt be there with him while they took the bloodwork??? I have always been right there and they actually have asked me to hold him sometimes . If I would have seen anyone coming out with Cookie holding him by the neck , I dont know if I could have controlled myself ! I hope your baby is doing better. How long have you had him? It took like 4-6 weeks of syringe feeding . But that was because of Kennel Cough. Please keep us updated . Genie |
Linus has collapsing trachea syndrome and luxating patella-What does that mean? It sounds serious. |
Shanatink- LP is slipping kneecap, which happens every once in a while when he walks. It's not causing him pain now, but it probably will in the future and he will have to have surgery. CTS is when his throat closes up when he gets excited or nervous. It's not serious now because it doesn't cause problems. Brooke- Got the harness and absolutely LOVE it! I was going to take a pic right before all of this happened, but I will definately do it tomorrow. There's a pic of him in my gallery in his shirt if you want to see it! DivaPup - He's 4 months and 2.8 lbs. When we got him he was 1.4 lbs. so I'm surprised that he's never done this before. As far is the bloodwork, his creatin level was high, as well as something else I couldn't see. It just made me mad when he said everything was normal when I could look at the paper and clearly see that it wasn't! I'm going to try to get him to eat a little now, hopefully he will! Thanks for the love everyone! Linus and I both appreciate it! |
Rosie- I also wanted to tell you that Haley has bad LP on all 4 knees, it doesnt neccesrily mean anything unless it REALLY bothers them. I know that it is very common among toy breeds. As far as collpasing trachea, what will they have to do for that? Poor little Linus :( |
Big puppy kisses for Linus! Sorry you had to go through this! |
Thanks for that Brooke...it makes me feel a lot better! As far as CTS, we don't have to do anything but keep an eye on him. If he starts doing it really frequently then they are putting him on asthma medicine. So no biggie, but we wanted to stud him out, and won't now :( . |
Sorry... Poor Little guy Linus. I'm sorry to hear about that~ I'd of been upset too! I'm hoping he is doing better now- Puppy get well wishes sent your way. ;) Melissa & "Baby Sophie" :aimeeyork |
Poor Linus I hope he gets better!!!!!! But in the mean time OMG SOME VET!!!!!!!!! first he puts a used thermometer (sp?) back in the drawer before cleaning it!! Then he carries poor linus by the neck and won't let you go back with him to have blood work done. and something must have happened to him if he screamed 7 times!!!!!!!! oh my gosh i can't believe this happened to you and linus. i'm so sorry and hope he feels better soon! |
That is horrible. I'm sorry you and Linus went through that, and hope he is better soon. I would get a 2nd opinion on anything they told you if he doesn't start feeling better. |
If someone have been very rude with my Zsa Zsa like they did for Linus . I swear that this someone would have seen hell breaking loose in front of him or her , they have no rights to be rude with a sick pup . |
Aww... poor little Linus! Olivia is sending lots of puppy "get well" kisses his way. That vet's office sounds like a nightmare. I would find out who's in charge of the whole operation and send them a letter. Perhaps they don't know that animals are being treated that way by the staff. If you get no response from the letter, call whomever is in charge and if you still get no response, call the BBB. Acting that way toward any animal is unacceptable, but even worse in the case of a sick puppy. |
Me and Rams hopes that Linus gets to feeling better!! :getwellso |
Poor Linus and Poor Mommy. It was upsetting just reading what you went through. That place should be reported for being unsanitary. They sound like uncaring creeps. :getwellso *hugs and cuddles* |
That was awful to read - DON'T those people know he was already traumatized by just being there ? Make him scream 7 times and carrying him by the neck would FREAK me out....I'm sorry but my vet has not once made either of my girls scream by drawing blood - he must have a very gentle touch and I'm so sorry you had to go thru that - Poor baby - All vets are NOT like those guys sound...what a shame they do this for a living. On his LP and Trachea - I would do everything they say - don't let him jump for the knees - and there IS treatment for CT but it can be something to think of only if it gets bad...Poor guy - those are 2 real problems with small breeds and I'm very sorry he seems to have them... I hope that little guys feels better and stops shaking - I know you must be so upset - feel FREE to vent when you need to - I would be too if that happened to one of my girls... |
if a vet carried bentley out like that ..i'd probably start swinging.. i'm sorry linus is feeling bad! i hope he gets better soon!!! what vet did you take him to??? i want to be sure and never go there! |
Duke and I are so sorry to here this, and we hope that Linus is feeling better soon. I cannot believe what a horror story this was and it just ticks me off that a vet would do that! |
take a stand You need to report this vet so that no one has to go through this again and you must do it for the dogs that are coming in behind you and will get those dirty instuments used on them. please please follow it up. that place should be shut down  dianne |
Glad to hear Linus is better. IMO, anyone practicing medicine needs to be held accountable for the decisions they make and to provide explanations for them. What this vet and his office did was quite unacceptable and they should be reported. |
Any updates on Linus?? Wet kisses coming his way from Coco and dry ones coming from Nobella :animal-sm |
 I just saw this thread! Poor baby! I would like to punch out that vet .... I probably would have ... there's no excuse for that kind of behavior. We will keep little Linus in our prayers! |
Thanks to everyone for the love and support! We all really appreciate it! Linus is doing much better now, he's been up and playing for a little and eating, so he's gotten better. I called my regular vet and they confirmed that it was hypoglycemia and that I did the right thing. I also told him to tell everyone who goes there to NEVER take their dog to that emergency vet. I told my mom, and she's taking care of filing a complaint with the health department and the BBB. So we will see how that goes. |

How's Linus? I hope better today!?!?! |
I am soo sorry that you had to go through all that. I can say that you kept your anger under control much better than I would have been able too. I'm glad he is doing much better. I hope nobody else would ever go through that again (carrying a puppy by his neck!). |
What a horribel emergency vet! They should be more caring because people are going there already freaked out, and need calming reasurance not to be tramatized even more. The fact that you could hear him through the doors yelping 7 TIMES!! Makes me mad for you. Poor Linus! I am glad Linus is doing better! :p |
:wavey: i got him to eat today like maybe five handfuls of food and he had one of belles chewy sticks! but i hope he turns out to be just fine!! i luv u so much!! get better linus!! tell bryan i say i love him o and for that creep docter if he carried belle out that way i would have yelled at him allison |
