Belly Bands Are belly bands useful for potty training? If so how do I go about it? |
Belly bands are great if you have a stud who marks. I used them on Spike when he was a puppy and now at two years old, he still has to sleep in them and still has accidents in the house. I think it prevented him from learning how to hold it. I'm sure there are some success stories but I wish I hadn't done it. I didn't use them on Sugar and he uses potty pads with no problem and no accidents. edit to clarify- my dogs are all neutered- I'm sure they are a lifesaver for who have un-nuetered males. |
They do not aid in potty training. All they do iss keeep your male from peeing on everything. They have to changed and the little guy washed with warm washcloths frequently to prevent infection. |
I would think that if they are being trained and unable to watch them, then I belly band is great. I made mine for Charlie with double sided flannel, 4" wide and circumferance of their tummy, wide velcro on each end and incontience pad inside. Works wonderfully. Of course, he is older and the only times he wears it is when I am at work. They are not supposed to be worn 24/7 and great for visiting. The belly band keeps them from marking and you can relax. Always remember when it is taken off, to either use a wash cloth or wipe to insure urine is not left on their skin. Good luck. |
Zippy wears one for his incontinence problem, eventhough he is on Proin it doesn't all ways work. He's and old guy at 15 so that's just one of the problems he has. |
