Lucy had a breakthrough :) About 3 weeks ago in Puppy class we were teaching our dogs to do the "down" command, well Lucy wouldn't do it for anything and after three weeks of practicing she just wouldn't do it for me until Last night, it was like "click" the lightbulb went off and she followed the treat and went into a down...I was so excited...and she was too she was walking around the rest of the night with her head held high and her chest pushed out a little! I can't wait to go to class next week and show the trainer that she finally did it! He told us this week that we might want to focus our energy teaching her something else because some dogs, toy breeds especially, just don't want to go into a down. |
Congratulations. Do you like going to classes? I'm going next month with Sebastian, and I'm so excited. |
Thanks! Yes I do like the classes we're doing a Puppy headstart class here and it's in two phases, the first phase lasts anywhere between 2-4 weeks and the second phase is 4 weeks long. We are in our 2nd week of phase 2 and Lucy really loves going and it's fun. I like that Lucy gets a chance to interact with different people as well as different breeds of dogs, we have a wide variety in our class, we have a Bernaise mountain dog, a german shepard, a puggle, a chi and rotweiller. Funny thing is she likes to rough house with the big dogs, and she's the second smallest in class and she pretty much rules playtime. It's great! and I can def. tell a huge difference in her behavior she is much mroe attentive to us and will actual listen when we tell her to sit! |
Yay Lucy girl! We knew you would do it sooner or later. That's what our trainer told me too that some small dogs just never get the down command because they are already close to the ground..lol. But I kept trying and same as you - the lightbulk moment - and all is good. The one trick that's hard for us now is the roll over - she just is having a hard time with it and if you get any suggestions let us know. Glad you like your training - we love it to - it's fun. :D |
