Why do females cost more? I am looking for a Yorkie :aimeeyork and noticed that females tend to cost more. Why is this? |
Most people that want a toy breed tend to want a female. This is the opposite of what people want in the larger breeds - most people want a male. So since females are more in demand, they usually cost more. |
a lot of people get Yorkies and piddle pad train them ... females are easier b/c they squat ... I am not sure about the males ... I fell in love with my 2 at first sight .... |
Generally, in a litter, there are more males born than females (not always, but alot of the time this is the case) making the males more readily available, so the cost of females is usually more. Also, females can produce babies...which is another thing you have to remember. These are some of the things that make females cost more than the males. |
I noticed that there are always more males being sold than females and attributed this to the higher cost as well. |
There's the fact that you can breed them, and also if you look around there are usually more boys out there then girls. |
I think because you can breed them, so then you can make money off of them!! |
Its because females are higher in demand than males |
I noticed this with other breeds too, the females are usually $100-200 more. Good question, I've always wondered about it! |
supply and demand |
how interesting...i'm beginning to wonder if i should get two dogs (non-breeding) so that they can keep each other company while we are away from the house. what's $100 difference anyway! thanks for all your feedback! |

Because they can wear cute dresses than boys can't???? :D Jeez, I need to get a girl soon... |
Higher Demand 1+1= Higher Demand!!! |
Because for some reason, girl dogs are in higher demand than boy dogs. Not sure why. ASIDE from the whole breeding a female factor--you will often find the same is true with dogs that have s/n contracts. I personally always say our females are more because they ARE more in demand...not to make money, but so that someone will actually seriously consider a boy vs a girl instead of just deciding on the female--when they are a cheaper, it really makes some people think. I think if you offer the two against each other for the same price, 9 times out of 10, the person is going to take the female everytime. I get calls often and the first question is, "Do you have any girls?" When I actually get to know the person interested in the dog, I tell my actual 'price' which is hardly ever what I originally claimed it to be, but by doing that, I attract only serious protential owners and eliminate the millers looking for a cheap, breedable dog. |
