My Yorkie Bites does anyone has yorkie that snaps and nips? it seem that all yorkies that i have seen, are so nice and love other dogs and people. my does NOT like anybody but his own immediate family and few friends of ours!we went trough all obedience training since he was 6 month old. He knows and does all of the commands. he will not cross the road unless i say so!but when it comes to strangers and other dogs, he goes crazy! if anyone even slightly touches him with their legs/foot he will nip .he can even nip or snap at me for the same reason:cry: I love him so much but do not know what to do? :sad:he helped me so much when my mom passed away 3 yrs ago(oh no it is 4 yrs ago :cry8:)that i can not stay mad at him for a long time.:( :cry8:    |
Maybe you could find someone that could work with you and your sweetie one-on-one. They could help you figure out at the core why this is happening. It would probably help both of you have a better quality of life. My first yorkie did that when he was little and we just laughed (mistake) later in life other friends and family didn't want to be around him as much. My nieces avoided him and they adore dogs. It was sad, because he was such a wonderful dog. |
my guy does snape and nips at people but only if he has something that he should nothave like if he happens to get a peice of paper or kleenex and for some reason he loves to sleep at the front door in the porch and when we go to get our shoes he growls when when his doing thatwith the shoes we take them say NO firm and then put them back and keep dong that till he does not nip or growl his donig better a family friend has a female that will not not growl at people but any other animals even there horses So any way in your case he does this so people you may look into a dog trainer or a web site that tells you how to train your baby to stop there a shows on t.v that deals with problems like this as well remember it is all in the way you talk to him you tone my max listens to a mans voice so much better because its deeper . |
Teach his that it is not appropriate by saying NO. Socializing them with other dogs and people is always a good idea to start when they are young i guess. Good luck with this |
one of my males likes to snap and bite me. no one else. he isn't doing it out of anger tho. When I am out and come back home, he gets so excited, his little teeth grab my leg or the clothes I have on and when i am letting them out to potty, he nips my arm when I pick him up. his is out of excitement tho and doesn't bother me at all. If he was mad and trying to attack, it would be different. |
very sad  i am very sad, my JC bit me 3 times this week! i am sore! he can be so sweet and then if you touch him while he is sleeping next to me, he will bite. or if you touch him accidently with your legs he will snap. i try not to let him be next to me and i say NO! he listens and then goes away. he always hides under the bed when he does something wrong. JC went through abidience classes since he was 6 month old(he is 6yrs old now) and he is very good with all of the commands! we also had a behaviorist but i think because i treated and spoiled him like a baby I ruined him. I now it is my fault and now i do not know what to do.i am so sadden:cry8: i just want to let this out. thank you for listening:cry8: :cry8: :cry8: :cry8: |
Is he neutered? |

Don't feel bad. Some of these little one's need more training than other's. First off, IMO, I would remove him from your bed. Have him sleep on the floor in his own bed. I know some would not approve but if you have an Alpha you have to take charge. I have gone this route with Buddy and it stops when he knows I am in charge. He is taking over your space and being Alpha over you. Never allow a pet to mouth you. (putting his teeth on your skin) Ever. Hold his mouth shut, gently, and tell him NO then release. Give him one of his chew toys instead. Do this repeatedly until he gets the message. He will when he know's you mean business. Time and patience is all you need. He's testing you. Never allow him to get his own way when you know he should be repremanded. Repremand him, don't feel guilty. Your doing him a favor, really by teaching him what's right and wrong. Good luck, |
My baby freaks out if we are outside and he see's kids or other animals coming near him. I asked our trainer about this and she said it can be becasue he is trying to protect us. Her advice was to give him a firm NO and then you stand in front of him with your back to the person/animal. This will show him that there is nothing to worry about. I know it seems simple, but surprisingly enough it actually works. Hope this helps, good luck with your baby. |
Penny nips and snaps at other dogs, but not at people. You might want to try a behavioral analyst to work with your pup. I have no idea how much they cost now, but years ago I worked with one and he was $45 an hour. |

Have you had him since a pup or was he owned prior to you gettting him? I was thinking that maybe if he was with someone prior to you, that perhaps they kicked at him or teased him with their feet? I know that all can be different but in most cases if they are socialized young with people and kids they are wonderful with strangers. Noel is skittish, but she was beaten as a pup. She don't bite though, just runs, hides or barks at strangers. Now, my Jersey we had since 10 weeks and she has been socialized. We took her and still take her with us to my son's baseball games yet she will not let anyone but our immediate family hold her. She does not bite, just tries to get away. Good luck to you. Elaine |
