Planning a Get Together - any advice? Suzy and I are planning a yorkie gathering this fall and wondered if any experienced yorkie get together planners might have any advice or dos & don'ts to offer to 2 novices. We are planning to go to a park with the possibility of a dog park. Thanks for your help! |
Hey yorkiesmiles...your PM inbox is FULL!!! I just tried to PM you back on this, but I can't! :D |

I just thought of a list of do's: 1) Exchange cell phone numbers. The first meetup we planned, YT went down that day, and several of us were wondering around a huge park, Yorkies in tow, hopelessly looking for each other, never to be found. If we had cell numbers, would never have happened. 2) Bring water dishes/bottles of water for your Yorkies, also, dry kibble if it is around their meal times.I used disposable bowls from the supermarket. 3) Snacks and drinks for the Yorkie Mommies (can't forget them, can we?) 4) Foldup chairs/throws for Moms to sit on while the babies frollick in the pen. (The linked ones shown in the pictures all came from stores like PetsMart.) Possible don't: 1) Dog Parks - do not have good facilities, people tend to go there, let their dogs run around for a while and leave. Also, many of them don't have toilet facilities or benches, often very little trees for shade. I am also leary of dog parks regarding disease, larger, more aggressive dogs with tiny little Yorkies. |

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Lauren! I had thought of cell phones, the x-pens, and the snacks/drinks...but had not thought of chairs/blankets to sit on, and we WERE considering having it at the dog park! You're right, and have convinced me that would not be the idea place to have it. Yorkiesmiles, I think the lake will be the best place to have it-I like your idea from the other day of the picnic area on the south (?) side where it's more quiet and there's room to run without having to worry about so many other dogs and the beach area... |
We just had a yorkie meet this past Saturday at a local park which has a doggie park and it was great!!! They actually have two areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs so that was not a problem..They even had a couple of benches in their for the mommys!! We had a great time and we actually did a small gift exchange too!! Some of us went afterwards to a deli nearby that had outside seating and actually caters to our fur babies and any other 4 legged doggie..They provided water and doggie cookies for the babies!!! It was nice to meet some of the YT members in person!!!:D In fact Terri acutally bought a baby pool for them to play in!!!:D |
Don't forget to post pics after you've had your Yorkie Palooza! I just know you're gonna love it so much, you're gonna want to do it again very soon! |
Where is this meet up going to be? |
take your time planning it, and if you do a gift exchange, be ready to fill in for someone if they don't show up. |
Thank you all for great advice. I've been off YT for a several days, due to intensive training for work. But just wanted to say Thanks to all of you for such great advice :D Suzy & I will be posting details soon about our Central Iowa meet up!!! |
