A yorkie can be heard through walls etc......they have that kind of a bark. They can not be hidden forever.....for sure she/he will be heard at some point. I am talking from experience. My baby was so quiet, and then a day at daycare ruined her forever! she learned how to bark from all the other dogs, and then came home, and started barking at silly things. In our house, that is sound proof for everything, she was heard by the landlords..(we are allowed to have her, but they still got concerned wondering if this was going to be the "norm") ..and they don't hear our tv or us ever.

So I would say it would not be a good idea....

I know it's sad - because they are wonderful dogs. I was told Yorkies didn't bark...that's just silly! They do - some more than others, but they will bark....and when they get started at times, no matter what you do, there's no stopping them.........:laugh: but cute just the same!

When is your lease over? Maybe you could transfer the deposit to a puppy who will be ready once you're settled into a pet-friendly living situation. :)

not a smart thing at all. My boys are generally quiet. My neighbor heard them for the first time when i was leaving them and they both had seperation anxiety; my old one because he wanted the new one to shhhh and the new one because he was anxious.

My old dog hardly barked until i got the new one, but he did bark during thunder storms cause he was scared and he barked at car alarms.. there is only one of those on my block but i know in the US there will be more false alarms going off. Make it so bad my dogs are quiet 90 percent of the time lol and the neighbors consider them great dogs because they don't bark! Well not much!ha

Now another story is when i didn't have a dog, I lived in Nebraska in an apartment and my brother brought his new puppy to see me for 15-20 minutes. It was such a fun visit but, during that 20 minute visit the landlord who had been really nice in previous matters smack a 3-day notice on my door. get rid of the dog or I have to move, and it wasn't even my dog. So be forewarned.

I don't think the barking should be your main concern. What if they have to enter your apartment? Then the hiding really gets complicated. And they may say you have to get rid of the dog, which you won't want to do, or move out yourself. Don't put your own living situation in jeopardy because of the dog. We recently moved to a new apartment, and our pet deposits here were $600 for two dogs, and some places quoted as much as a $900 deposit just for the dogs! But, it is worth it to pay all of the deposits and make sure that they are pet friendly! I wouldn't know what to do if someone told me to get rid of my dogs! But, I do think that an apartment is enough space for our dogs, as long as you take them out frequently, which I'm sure you would do! Best of luck!

I just found this thread. Believe me, if you change apartments, and THEN get your Yorkie, you will just SO happy that you chose this route. I cannot imagine my life without my babies. They have brought me more joy than I could possibly describe.

My Aira is considered quiet for a Yorkie, she only barks when we get her all riled up during play. When she does bark, however, she is quite loud. I'm not sure you'll be able to hide her from your neighbours for long.

It will be so much easier for you and your baby this way. You won't have to worry nearly as much. Welcome, by the way! :D

I would suggest finding a pet-friendly place first. Like any dog, Yorkies do bark, sometimes even more. You don't want to have to re-home the pup later. There are plenty of places that allow dogs, it just takes sometime to find the right one. I made sure the place I am in now allows (and knows) I have two dogs. It is so much nicer not having to worry. I'm not in the area of town I'd prefer but I moved here for my dogs. Trust me, it'll be too hard to hide the pup. You really can't predict how big your Yorkie will get. While it will always be considered a small dog, it may not always be as tiny as you think. And then you have to rely solely on potty pads rather than sneaking him outside to go potty. I was subletting a house for a while with Riley and the landlord didn't know. It was awful! I'd have to hide all of his stuff when he came over and then take Riley out of the house. We'd even come up with stories, should we get caught, that we were dog sitting. My Riley barks at anyone who comes to the door or even walks by. I'm surprised my neighbors haven't complained (I guess I'm lucky that they all love my pups). Anyways, good luck!!! mine is about 4-5 lbs. and he does not bark except when I go towards the door (or if the doorbell rings) ... I do not think anyone can hear it outside. I keep the windows closed) ...
when you do venture out, use a carrier and pray for the best ....
I hope you do not get caught and have to relinquish your dog or your lease ...:cry:

Chloe raised the roof tonight...and all I did was let the foot down on my recliner. She was sleeping, though, on the floor near me and it woke her up. My little watchdog!

Barking yorkies......from my experience and a few yorkies of my own....they are given the name yapyap dogs which really is not true. Yes they bark BUT THEY ARE DOGS!!! They bark at the same things other dogs bark at...outside noises, noises on the TV and to protect you and their home! Any dog can be a problem barker and their are things on the market to help with that!!! When you have more than one they can sort of feed of each other when something has them barking. I have seen mine be totally relaxed and asleep and let one of them start barking ,they will all join in even if they really dont know what they are barking at LOL!!! I dont think you can really hide a dog...yes yorkies are small and it would be tempting to try but if you get a puppy they will chew on things and could damage woodwork or something in the apartment. Puppies need to be potty trained and that could lead to damage of some kind. Neighbors....well there are some that make it a point to make sure EVERYONE is following the rules and would let the landlord know they suspect you have a puppy just out of the goodness of their hearts of course HaHa!! I think it would be a lot of stress for you trying to keep it from everyone rather than it being a happy time and enjoying your baby.

I know how hard it is to live in a place that isn't pet friendly. I kept my pitbull "hidden" for about 5 months when she was a pup. We had an off site mgnt company and no one in my complex really cared that I had a puppy, in fact a few others got pups after me, but we all had to live in fear that when mgnt was on site, they would decide to enter our apt.
