Cataracts? Eye Drops for removal?
 
Has anyone heard of this. Non surgical way to remove cataracts? My Toby is turning 16 October 8th and is in great shape. We nearly lost him in June but he is a fighter. But of course older dog - cataracts and hearing problems. The drops I have been reading about is called Nu-Eyes or Bright-Eyes. Its main solution contains N-Acetyl-Carnosine. Has anyone heard about these and if they work? I phoned my vet the other day and am waiting an answer.

My first dog, Murphy, RIP, was 16 1/2 when we put him down, almost two years ago which I can't believe. He was my surprise on my first day of second grade! When he was around 10-12 he was diagnosed with Glaucoma, and was on eyedrops for the rest of his life with no problems whatsoever. He developed cataracts later in life but never bad enough to do anything about so again with the drops. I think if your dog is 16 i would opt for the non-surgical option, it's a lot safer!

Thanks for the reply. The drops Murphy was taking were they for keeping the glaucoma at a minimum? If the non surgical drops work I'm wondering why everyone isn't doing it. Human or pet? I'd like even 20% to work. So hopefully the vet comes back with an answer about these drops. Toby is starting to get confused walking around the house. The cataracts are fully matured according to the vet at his last visit but a few thousand dollars to do the surgery for an old dog is alot of money. It must have been an awful feeling when Murphy passed after having him so long. His passing must have been tough. I'm dreading the day when Toby is taken from me.

It was, even at the age of 23, the hardest thing i've ever gone through. It was time and as hard as it was for me I knew it was only fair to him, he lived a long, love filled life. The drops did wonders for him and the glaucoma. Like I said before, surgery, especially on yorkies and older ones at that is harder for their poor little bodies to handle, so if the vet is hopeful with the drops I would say try them first. i wish you and toby all the best! keep me updated!

There are no miracle medications for illnesses of old age . I tried the eye drops when maļa started having cataracts , It didn't worked at all . She had the surgery and she was able to see . She died at 19 years old .
When Zsa Zsa started to have cataracts , I didn't even bothered with the drops , she had the surgery .

Thanks for reply. Theres the answers I was looking for. Do you remember the eye drop companies you used? Also if you don't mind telling me. What was the cost for the cataract surgery?

I already ordered the NU eyes they say they are great and even for humans. I am willing to try them because cant afford $3,000 for surgery and there is no guarantee. My yorkie is only 7 years old. Please let us know someone if they really work. My vet told me there was nothing.

You might want to look into the Ocluvet drops. They are more money but safer for dogs eyes that I have been reading. I read somewhere that some manufacturers have been recalled with there product. I have to find that letter on the FDA website.
