Morgan is doing so well with the litter box! Morgan is our morkie and she is now 6 months old. I decided to train her to use a litter box. I'm not sure if anyone else has trained their dogs to use one but I have to say I was a little skeptical. I mean seriously will she really learn to use it?! Well, I am happy to say she has! She goes to the box everytime. I am so amazed how quickly she caught on. I kept her blocked off in a small area but recently gave her run of the house. We still put her in her kennel when we leave or at night because she terrorizes Bailey, our cat. I'm hoping that as she gets older she'll lay off Bailey and be able to run around the house while we're gone or sleeping. I had just switched jobs right before we brought her home and I would be working 10 hour days. I almost didn't get her but I had her picked out since she was a week old. I visited her once a week until we brought her home. I just had to go ahead and get her, I was already too attached. A friend recommended litter box training that way eventually, if my children (21 & 18) or husband aren't home for the day and I am working she won't be stuck not being able to go to the potty. I just wanted to post in case anyone is considering using a litter box but just wasn't sure if it works. I can tell you that it does! |
That sounds like a great idea!:) I'm glad its working so well for you! |
litter training Hi Toby's Mom, I'm glad to hear litter training went well for Toby. I'm getting my first male yorkie tomorrow. We are going to try to litter train. However, I have a question you might be able to answer. Have you ever taken Toby in public or to a park? Does Toby know that it is ok to potty outside as well if he has to, without then being confused when he gets back into the house. Thanks, Dobi's Mom |
Great to know. I actually bumped into a man who had two miniature pinchers and he had litter box trained his female. He said it worked well since she is so small. I have been debating if I wanted to do this for my Yumi. I am hoping it saves on having to buy potty pads and with clean up. How did you go about training her to go in the box? |
Yes, please do tell us your method. I am training Willow to use a box, and she pees in it off and on. Sometimes she will have a 90% hit rate, then other times she has a 30% rate. She RARELY poops in it though........ I am thinking I am going to have to set the x-pen back up and try to start from the beginning again... |
Hi My SIL tried to potty train her small dog to a litter box but he trained his self to the shower. thats the only place he will go potty. Kind of gross, but I guess thats better then the carpet. lol |
Siu Pao is litter box trained since the day he came home. He is a year old and 3 months and has been doing good with his pee/poo. His mistake since the day he came home is less than 3 times in total. When we do go out for walks, he does it outside too so if I have the time and brings him out a few times a day, he doesn't use the litter box but if we didn't, he uses his litter box. |
ok. So for those of you who use the litter box... what is the advantage over pee pads? Do they train easier to the litter box? |
