Puppy tooth question I was going to wait to have Jo neutered but he's started marking a few things so I'll be making an appointment to have him neutered soon, he's almost 7 months old. I don't want them to have to pull a bunch of teeth at the same time though. Do the puppy teeth come out in any certain order? Maybe I'll get an idea of whether or not he's about done losing them on his own. He's replaced all the tiny front teeth, the canine teeth and I've found 2 larger back teeth but who knows how many I haven't found. |
My Sophie had to have 4 teeth pulled when we had her spayed. Her permanent teeth had came in beside the baby ones and she was only 6 mths. old. The vet said they where really in there good and had to be pulled. I was afraid to wait because I didn't want it to make her teeth crooked. She came through everything just fine. I asked for pain meds. because of all she had done and we didn't even have to give her one. She acted like nothing had happend. So if they do have to pull your babies teeth I think he will be fine. I hope everything goes well. :aimeeyork |
The last one I waited until 8 months. I think with him, the front came out first, and then the molars and then the canines. I had 2 of the canines pulled when I got him fixed. |
Sorry if this is dumb...but about how old do they start falling out?....Maximus is 4 months and I still haven't seen a tooth fall out or feel ready to fall out (OUCH!!!)....I want to get him neutered in about 2 months..as per by vet's suggestion, do they usually fall out relative to each other as far as time span? |
teeth Do have the vet pull his extra teeth at the same time..it is not like humans having a tooth pulled. Mine come home and eat by evening..even chew on a toy. Going under twice is much more risky..best wishes |
This might be a stupid question, but I've been told there's no such thing. Why do they need their teeth pulled? Don't they just fall out on their own? |

Some dogs (especially toy breeds) baby teeth don't fall out on their own. this can cause problems later on, so it's best to have them pulled. Tucker's teeth are falling out all over the place. I started to notice it about 2 weeks ago. He is almost 6 months... |
Thanks sophie's mom and yorkieagility. luzangela428...I first noticed Jo losing teeth around 5 months I think. Pat...I will have the extras pulled when he's neutered but he's losing them so easily I guess I'd like to let him lose as many as he can on his own. Our first Yorkie didn't lose any baby teeth so he had 2 complete sets when he got neutered...the poor little guy looked like a crocodile! vainchick5...yes, sometimes baby teeth do have to be pulled or they'll ruin the alignment of the adult teeth and can cause other problems as well. |
teeth Someone told you Yorkies do not retain teeth, odd! Unfortunately it is common., so is tartar and gum disease and early tooth loss.,but we love them anyway. |
I had 2 sisters that retained 19 teeth between them. Boy, did they look like sharks. Yorkies are known for their teeth and gum problems. Their teeth nedd constant watching, the retained need to be pulled at altering and thenvet visits for tooth check at least once a year. These little buggers do not seem to be bothered by having teeth pulled. They come home and eat.. |
