Fairness verses what is right? Ok everyone I have a question for you guys about what you'll think is fair or right. I am in a Yorkie Group that meets up and lets the dog’s play and all that. A casually they will meet at a restraint to eat without the dogs. (Members with out dogs could attend that) A member joined that did not have a dog. They asked her to leave and when she got a yorkie to come back and join. Here are the REQUIERMENTS to be in the group: "To join our group: You must own a Yorkshire Terrier. In addition you must stay active by visiting our site, communicating through our message board and going to our meet ups. If our out of town members are not able to attend our meet ups, they must participate in our message board. You are also required to upload at least one picture of your Yorkie and answer a couple of questions in your profile page." Ok here are my thoughts. We have members that our out of state that have not posted in over a week and why haven’t we asked them to leave the group? Also if "we are all about our Yorkies! We are obsessed and are proud of it! We invite you to be an official "YOYO" too. We want our "family of yorkie lovers" to grow and to be active in our "YOYO" group. And we are a family...caring, sharing and enjoying what we love most...our yorkies." Why can't people that share the Love for the Yorkies join too even if they don't have a Yorkie? I guess what I am saying is that just because someone may not own a yorkie or any other type of dog does not exactly make them a bad person and they may just be trying to get more information about the breed in order to make their decision on what type of dog they should get. Here is my question if this was you what and how would you feel about it? I know that it would have left a bad taste in my mouth for people if I joined a group in the hopes of learning more about a certain breed and then being asked to leave. I probably would not want to even socialize with those types of people. |
Yeah, I totally agree with you, but I don't think it is right to have exclusive groups in general. The more the merrier! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I would want people to learn about the breed like they do on here. If someone did not want me for what ever reason, I would not join later if I met their requirements. |
If I know I'm not wanted, I leave. But I still think that's pretty bad to kick someone out just because they don't own a yorkie. You can have love for something but not own it. Before I got my bike I joined a motorcycle forum because I love bikes, I wasn't kicked out because I didn't have a bike. |
I don't see why people can't attend that don't have a yorkie as long as they are interested in owning the breed someday and are trying to find out if the breed is right for them. |
Reply from Organizer from my e-mail The organizer replied back to my e-mail that I wrote to her and said that “when a stranger joins the group and does not have pictures and does not post info in their profile, we don’t know them or know what they want. They may just be lurking and finding out details about our lives. They may be wanting to find out where we are going. They may be trying to find out what park a bunch of women are going to with their little dogs. I am not a “bad” person so I am sure there are lots of things “bad” people could do or try to do.” This particular member in my eyes never even had the opportunity to explain her reason to join didn’t even have enough time to post pictures and answer the questions. And Furthermore the locations that they pick to have the meet ups are always in safe places and I think that we are all adults and if we feel that the location is not safe for you or your yorkie then you just don’t attend the meet up. I agree that simple rules should apply to the meet ups and members but I think that is what it should be is SIMPLE and at the same time where do you as the organizer draw the line to pervading the members safety? There are predators in her words "Lurkers" that lurk everywhere. They don’t have to be on the Internet they could be already at the places that the meet up are going to be held at without even knowing that we are coming. On top of that just about every meet up there are about 4 to 5 men that attend the meet ups with us ladies. I do not feel scarred with my husband there I know that he will protect me. I think that if anything were to happen he would take action and protect anyone of the meet up members there. |
It sounds like a clique to me, and I'm not interested in being any part of those. I think people should be encouraged to come and learn as much as they can, so they can make informed decisions. |
I personally wouldn't join a group that has such stringent rules. That right there sets the mood. |
Clique is the right word.:thumbdown |
If someone showed up that was interested in the breed I would think they would be more than happy to talk to them. Then they could share the pros and cons of the breed and make sure this is the right choice for that person. Although for whoever starts a club they do have the right to make up the rules - no one is forced to join. |
