Burrs - grass burrs, thistles - urrrrrr Does anyone know a good way to get rid of grass burrs? I just got done prying about a dozen burrs from Bubba's long coat - and of course each burr also pulled out a hair or 2, even though I was trying to carefully pull them out. I have the yard sprayed for weeds - although I'm thinking of stopping the company that comes - because its evident it is not working! Bubba always has them 10 times worse than Roxie and he spends 1/10th the time outside she does - and he is not one to roll in the grass. It's like he's a magnet for them! |
Emma got these the last time we went to the park and went a little off the trail...at least I think they were grass burrs-some kind of burr anyway :confused: I found the best way to get them out of her cotton coat was a wet washcloth, followed by a wide-tooth comb, and then a normal brushing. Leave-in conditioner might help too? EDIT: just realized that you were asking how to get them out of the YARD and not out of his hair. Oh well! Hope this helps if he gets any more! Just remember-soon enough we'll have snow :( and there won't be any more burrs to catch on them...next we'll be worrying about the snow chunks that build up along their legs and tummies! |
I really don't have problems removing them from his coat - I can usually work them out with my fingers or a little spray of Cloud Star's Buddy Splash. What I would really like to do is find out how to get rid of them in my yard! I don't even know where the patch is though - lol |
Gizmo's usually fally out when I sit him a tub of water. ;) |
I pick them out one at a time. Then give them a good brushing. If your talking about your yard I find if I keep my lawn cut short they don't get them. |
my grass was just cut - its very short and I'm certainly not ready for snow - ugh I better go find where the patch is at in the yard |
Gizmo can find them anywhere in a three block area while on a leash!! So, I feel your pain. I was told to cut the yard twice a week :eek: and put down weed and feed every season. I decided that he needed shorter hair anyway. :rolleyes: |

Grass burrs are thistle little things that for whatever reason grow in grass. There are also sand burrs and who knows how many other little thistle - prickly little burrs out there. I don't know if there's anything to put on them...maybe a conditioner would help remove them? Rocky went into a field at my uncles last year and came out with a few..I didn't know until I went to pull out a long piece of grass from his hoodie and he screamed, so I stopped pulling it and saw it was a burr. He actually had them on HIS SKIN though, like right by his neck, and one by his ear. I took him to the vet to have them take them off, I didn't trust myself with scissors that close to him, I was to afraid of accidently cutting him. |
