Parker's first flight... Hey guys! My 6 month old Parker is going on her first flight in 2 weeks! I've never flown with a dog before and want to know if any of you have tips to make this a quick and painless event. I wanted to get a nonstop flight, but the rates just weren't reasonable. So I got a 1 stop flight with a very short layover... Overall this will be a total of 6hrs and 30mins from point to point.... I still need to get her an airline approved kennel... I plan on taking her to the vet a few days before to make sure she's fit to fly (and hopefully get a tranquilzer for her nerves) Does anyone know how the cabin pressure affects dogs' ears? Anyone have any tips or experiences to share? Thanks, Stacey |
I flew to pick up Izzie when she was 12 weeks. She did great...other than the fact she was a little scared from being separated and with a stranger. I don't think the cabin pressure bothered her ears. We also had a layover in SF for a couple of hours. I took a pee pad, some water, a little food, toys, and some nutri-cal. We just found a 'quiet' corner and set up a little area and played and got to know eachother. Other than people wanting to pet and hold her it was fine. During the flight the only time she was under the seat was on take off and landing. They let me hold her on my lap during one leg of the flight, but on the other the flight attendant let me hold the carrier on my lap, but not take her out. Something about people's allergies:confused: I wasn't sure what the difference was if she was in my lap or in the carrier. I'm sure you will do fine. Make sure you don't carry too much...not easy with a bunch of bags and a pup too. |
Have you looked in the "Traveling with Yorkies" section - TONS of great info in there, lots of tips! :) |
I will be flying with mine soon too. Right before I got Madeleine, I sat next to a woman on a plane who had her little yorkie. I think she was about 3 months old. She was a perfect little angel and didn't make a sound. I'm hoping I get that lucky. Good luck with your flight! |
