Walking your Yorkie! Okay ladies and gentleman...... I have a question for you. Is my Murphy the only yorkie who HATES to go on walks? I have no idea but since I have had him he has not been into walks. He DRAGS his feet and behind all the way except when it is time to go home than he makes a mad dash for home.  Mia on the other hand would like to walk ALL night long. :p I wish Murphy liked to walk - I love walking at night and getting my stress out from work not to mention he needs to walk his little butt is getting a little fat - hee hee ~ LOL!! |
Looks like you have a couch potato:D I remember when Buddy was a pup he didn't like walking much and I had to pick him up but then would put him down later. He caught on and now there is no stopping him. |
LOL... You're not alone!!!:D :p Hannah is just like Murphy:rolleyes: She HATES to go for walks, car rides, parks... she basically wants to stay at home... When hubby and I show the girls their harnesses, Maggie gets all excited 'cause she knows we're going out, but Hannah runs the other way and try to hide... And while out, most part of the way she refuses to walk and looks at me as if I'm a terrible mother and to make her walk is abuse!  Well... I usually end up carrying her in my arms (she likes this way)... Go figure!!! :p |
My little one dont like to walk either. She just stands there or tries to back up and out of her harness. |
Teddi loves to walk....but when she is done, she is done. She will walk and walk and then she will just stop and sit and face me and that's when I know she is ready to be picked up! But she can go on a 1 hour walk and be fine. |
Piper will walk forever, but Miss Penny only wants to go in the stroller. |
Cody loves to walk.. but he really likes running with the zoomies more! |
Bella is the same. She will walk WAY behind on her retractable leash and some times just stop n stare at me. I found that the only way i can get her to walk is if she's off leash. Ruby on the other hand loves going on walks and the outdoors. I call Ruby my tomboy who likes the outdoors n Bella my princess who loves to go shopping n be in her carrying bag. Ruby won't go in the carrying bag even if its filled with treats  But i don't mind. I have a Yorkie i can walk with n a Yorkie i can shop with.:) |
Brutus, my first yorkie, would ONLY walk if you went in the direction HE wanted to go. He'd stop and pee at every dandelion. When done, he wouldn't budge an inch. Walk over. I carried him home, plenty. Maxwell, my new boy, would walk/hike for an hour+ and still not want to stop! |
Both of my dogs are good walkers, however the baby gets tired before the rest of us so I wind up carrying him most of the way. He's a great 2 lb weight. ;) Scary walking story....when we first got Stewie and were walking with him I was carrying him on the main road. Cars go faster there and there's just more action. He was tiny and scared. A loud boat went by on the lake and scared him so much that he jumped out of my arms and landed front feet first on the asphalt. He started screaming and I was convinced had broken a leg. All was well, thank goodness! Now I've learned how I must hold him while walking so that he doesn't do that again. PHEW! |
Hallie said she will stay home with Murphy :) She's never been much of a walker and this summer her little legs started to hurt and the vet said he thinks it's the beginning of arthritis. Simon on the other hand walks 3 miles with me every night. I either let Hallie stay home or carry her in her sling carrier. I make her walk a little way b/c she really needs the exercise (she's prone to being chubby) but she turns around and tries to go home the whole way  |
Sophie loves to walk. She has her nose into everything.:D When we first start out, she pulls so hard that she makes funny noises. We use her harness because she is such a puller. By the time she has gone about 1/8 mile, she has slowed down considerably, but she still is excited.:aimeeyork |
2 Attachment(s) Mitzi wouldn't walk either until she got her booties... her paws are very sensitive... and she needs another environment once in a while. She is the adventures type. It's too funny how she stands there looking at me, smiling and then looking in the direction she wants to go today... :D |
Chip loves going for walks, he loves to sniff everything and socialize with everybody and dog along the way. Sometimes he lingers behind me sniffing something for a bit too long though. Now my sister's yorkie Zippy is another story, he's old and has a back issue so he's not a great walker anymore. He used to like going for walks but he would never walk on the same side of the road with you, you would be on one side and he would on the other with the leash fully extended. I think he has "personal space" issues. Anyway not a safe situation, but luckily we live on a quiet street. |
walking Cocoa loves to walk. As soon as I get out her harness, she starts doing summersalts. Gizmo runs and hides, once I get him out the door though he can't get enough of it. If you stop for more than 15 seconds Gizmo barks because he wants to keep going. If I take them on a long walk at the park and rest on a park bench, Gizmo starts yelping for us to hurry up and continue. It's really cute. Cocoa also starts doing rolls when she's had enough, then I have to pick her up and give her a little break. |
