Winstin Went to Vet Today and I am Nervous. Winstin will be three months on Monday so he went to vet and got distemper shot and rabies vac. Both on his right side. Distemper was on his front leg and rabies on his back. I am nervous because I can not hold him or pick him up or he yelps. Have your Yorkies done this with shots. I did call my vet and they said it should get better in a few hours. His shots were 4 and a half hours ago. I do trust them I just need to hear from others what they have went through to put my mind at ease. He is sleeping and does not react much if I pet him or talk to him. He did drink a little water when we first got home. He has a rough day because I gave him a bath, blow dried his hair and trimmed hair on bottom of his paws before we went to vet. He is probably exhausted. Do I just need to relax???? Jen |
Stewie had some shots the other night. A few hours afterwards he started crying in pain. Once he fell asleep for the night, he was fine. He was perfectly fine by morning. I think the pups are just like kids. The shots make them cranky, tired and sore. :( |
Jewels did that one time after her shots but was fine by the next day. I am sure winstin will be too |

The shots can make them tired and lethargic, and I think the smaller they are, the harder they fall! :) |
When Rebel first started his shots, he was really small and I was terrified for him. The vet told me to give him 1/2 a baby aspirin when I got home. I did, and no problems at all. |
One of my yorkies has that reaction after his shots also. I give him 1/4 of a baby aspirin and that seems to help. They usually are back to their normal selfs in 24 hours. I hate having to take them for shots. |
Baby aspirin will help, but it will go away by itself. |
Thanks everyone. You have made me feel much better. They did say when I called not to give him anything . He is resting on my lap which is more than I could do a couple hours ago. My bigger dogs have never had a problem. However, he is much smaller. Maybe I will check with vet on giving him pain stuff before he goes back in four weeks for next one. I just felt so bad for him. It did not help that three weeks ago he did fine and they told me about side effects and that they could increase with each shot. Thanks again for your encouragement!!! |
I've never heard of a dog getting a vaccination in the leg...maybe that's why? |

His were given in the top of leg. Like the shoulder area. He is getting better every hour. |
shots in leg I think it depends on the vet. I had a different vet give one of my girls a shot in the hip several years ago when my vet was out on vacation. Within 2 hours she couldn't get up and I had to rush her back in for a shot of prednisone. No one ever gives any of my dogs shots anywhere now except behind the neck |
I think he is normal again. My feet are under attack! :animal36 At least it was over quickly. Thanks everyone for the replies. It helped me lots!! Jen |
