Yorkie VS Maltese VS Boy VS Girl I will eventually be looking to get a new brother or sister for my girl Rylie. She is now a little older then 1 and half, and I love her to death... I can't picture my days without her. I am trying to decide exactly what I want… I would love to have another Yorkie but my boyfriend says that one little trouble maker is enough… but I’m so undecided Rylie is so wonderful, fun and never a dull moment when she’s around. I however also think maltese’s are very cute and are similar to yorkies (except for the colour) Basically I want either a Yorkie, Matlese or either the 2 mixed or a yorkie poo. I don’t want any other type of dog other then those 2 breeds. As i have allergies to dogs which then bring on my asthma and have been around both a maltipoo and a maltese and have been fine around both. (and am completely fine around my yorkie) Oh ya… also I don’t anything bigger then what my Rylie is right now… 7lbs of crazyness. Anyone have any recommendations, anyone have both a maltese and a yorkie? or a mix of the two or a yorkie poo? Another thing..... Boy VS Girl?? :aimeeyork |
As much as I LOVE yorkies, I do love the sweet expression of a maltese too... Probably I would go with a baby girl maltese, to wear nice pink bows!!! anyways, you can not get wrong with either, yorkies or maltese... and I do think maltese are much easier going than yorkies... at least on my experience!!! Oh, and I would not go with a crossbreed... I have nothing against the pup itself, is just that something bothers me about spending big bucks on a dog that is not a pure breed, instead of getting it from the shelter for a spaying/neutering fee (leave alone to save his/her life) JMO, though... |
Hey BevPeter, You live in Toronto, so do I!!! I actually have a Yorkie/Maltese mix. I love the look of the Yorkshire terrier, and think they are amazing dogs. So scrappy! In my experience with everyone I know who have Yorkies and Maltese, I find that the Yorkshire terriers have more personality. They're more energetic and can get into sooo much trouble, whereas the Maltese are more calm and laid back. So, it depends on what you want, a fun and energetic dog or a calm lap dog. As for training, I find them both the same to train. Same with male vs female, it's all a personality thing. If you do have a female at home already, I suggest a male, and vice versa. It's supposedly easier to bring home a pup of the opposite sex. Good luck with your decision! |
I have a female yorkie and a male maltese. Diezel is very sweet, cool calm and collected. My only negatives with a maltese is the easy matting and tear stains:thumbdown. He also gets dirty very quickly. He gets weekly baths to keep him looking white. I love him to death and wouldn't trade him for anything, but he will be my last white or light colored dog.:) |
Being that you already have a yorkie, maybe it would be fun to have a maltese. I'd go look at both, and then make a decision. Maybe the maltese wouldn't be as hyper as Rylie, and your boyfriend will be happy. |
Malteses are adorable little ones . My mother have a litter of adorable little ones . She doesn't have problems brushing and combing her because Belle have a silky coat . |
I would get another female Yorkie, and this is my reason............first off I find the Maltese very sweet, but they are more laid back than the Yorkie and probably wouldn't be the best play pal for the energetic Yorkie. Next I've seen where a male tends to mark his area and especially if there is a female present. |
I have a male yorkie (neutered, 3yrs old, approx. 11lbs) and I have a female maltese (spayed, 1yr old, approx 4 lbs), and they get along beautifully!! They love each other :) My maltese is more rambunctious than my yorkie. She's a wild girl who loves to play but also knows how to cuddle. I also have allergies, but I'm not allergic to my yorkie or maltese. Whatever you do, make sure that you find a reputable breeder... |
Biewers are hypo-allergenic. Just a thought. Maltese require a lot of work keeping them "white". I'd go for another yorkie or a combination of the too. |
I have been thinking the same. I want another one also but don't what to get. I would love to have a Biewers but I can't afford them. They are so beautiful. But the more I see the Maltese and how white and the stains on the eyes, I think that I will go with a Yorkie. Deiter doesn't care as long as I get him a play mate. But this one will be a girl. |
The only thing with a mix is you don't know what you will get. I adopted a maltese/yorkie mix at 14 weeks - he was 2# 7 ounces and we didn't expect him to get much bigger than 6 or 7 pounds, but he is 10# 7 ounces at 2. He is not fat at all, but just a bigger boy. I didn't care about size and I actually think he is perfect - not too fragile, but if you adopt a mix be prepared for it to get bigger than what you may have thought. Check petfinder too! They have some adorable yorkie mixes and maltese mixes and there are some puppies too :) |
Maltese aren't that much of a pain to keep white!! LOL :) Unless they're out playing in the mud all the time, they stay pretty clean :) But female Maltese are just about the same price as Biewers. From a good breeder, a female maltese can be around $2000 and up for limited registration. |
I would go for a maltese.. My friend has one and she is sooo cute! She has to get groomed every few weeks though becuse they don't want her hair to grow out.. she has a really cute personality.. she does bark alot though.. but training can stop that.. She has alot of energy but likes to just lie down on you or behind you on the top of the couch.. shes a few years old.. not sure exactly but it might be her age that makes her just want to be a lap dog. |
