When We had kittens here, (3 litters:eek: ) I wouldn't let them leave until they were about 8-12 weeks depending on their size and independance. Kittens suck very hard. they may be sucking on a nipple that doesn't have much milk and suck to just suck like a pacifier. My kittens always did that and my cats nipples would look like there were little blood blisters on them. If there was no milk they would just suck for a pacifier. If you want to dry up your little girl try baby onesies. My cat was too small for the ones I had so I ended up using ......well.........a sock:eek: . One of my husbands long tube socks! I cut arm holes and leg and tail holes. It was tight enough for the kittens not to get to her but not too tight. |
the picture is very adorable and by looking at the size of the kittens they appear to be 4 weeks old. Since you said your pseudo mom's teats are looking sore i'd stop letting her nurse them. the kitten teeth are probably too sharp now and making her sore. You can start giving them kitten food mixed in water to soften it up. If they don't take to that you can make it even softer by using KMR (get at petco) and wet food and making a mash out of this. I'd keep them for another month before you let them go to new owners. |
I found my first cat when she was one week old. I had no mommy yorkie, so I had to do the next best thing- bottle feed. I used KMR, and with the help of my vet weened her at about five weeks. I used dry food and soaked it in the KMR (kitten formula) Gradually I decreased the amount of time that I let it soak, and the amount of KMR that I soaked it in. You can get KMR at Petsmart, and I've even seen it in a few groceries. If you can't find it, a lot of vets and animal shelters keep it and will sell you some! Also, if you need a good, cheap vet, a lot of animal shelters also have vets. They are usually pretty cheap if you are taking in a stray and need care for it (they realize that you are helping the animal and not just dumping it in their shelter, so they tend to keep the costs to a minimum in this situation) This is what I did with my kitten, and we got wonderful care for her quickly and inexpensively. I would stay away from the wet food for a while- it could get under the gums and rot the teeth, and a lot of cats get picky and won't eat dry food after they've gotten used to the wet. Good luck!!! That picture is the sweetest thing!!!! -O |

this is the cutest thing ever. I think THE BEST thing would be take em all to the vet. Ask him/her your questions. Animals aren't normally like humans the mom and the babies will know when to wean themselves. |
This is so cute! I can't get enough of these pics! I forwarded them on to a few friends/family members with your story copied/pasted, and I told this this was happening with a YT member's yorkie. Everyone was amazed, and thought it was the sweetest thing ever! I hope you don't mind that I shared... It's one of the best stories ever! :D |
