Yorkie pregnant, need help/info I think Koko is pregnant, and i have no previous experience with dog pregnancy so i'm looking for some help here. Can i still bath/shower Koko even if she is pregnant? i think she is 5-6 weeks pregnant and my sister is going to take her to the vet today to confirm. Koko is only 11months old, is she too young to have puppies? Should i not put any anti fleas/ticks product on her during pregnancy? Shall i leave her home and not take her out to the park/streets so that she will not pick up any junk on the streets or any bacteria etc? What kind of special care should i provide her? |
I think you can still bathe her. How big is she? If this is her 1st heat i think you're supposed to wait for the 2nd one but i hope everything goes well! |

You can bathe your girl up until she is about to give birth... it's nice for them to be clean right before giving birth... I usually give the last bath a few days before they are due. I wait at least a week afterwards to bathe them again. I stop all flea meds when I think my girls are pregnant... some vets say it is OK to use certain flea meds... I just don't put it on them . I also restrict exposure to my other dogs the last two weeks of their pregnancy... not everyone does this... I put them in an xpen. All the best to you. Keep us posted. :) |
Hi - I posted some info for you in your other thread :) Keep us posted! |
Congratulations on the pregnancy. I don't know much about having litters, but I would think you could still breed her. |
Did you breed Koko with your male, the one you are thinking of putting to sleep because he will not stop peeing on things? I'm not trying to start any trouble, I just want to say that if so, this may be a large part of your problem. Once you have bred him, this will always be a problem. You may want to start using belly bands on him or think about rehoming him because what's done is done. There is a very good thread somewhere on here in regards to what happens to a male once you use him as a stud. |

You too? I have heard/read that the AKC will accept/register a litter as long as the female was at least 8 months old at the time of breeding. Never breed on the first heat, second one is okay. Flea medicine (or any other medicines etc) always check with your vet first. Bathing at this point is fine. I was told not to bathe the female for a coupe of days right after breeding; don't quite understand that, but it's what I've heard. Regular exercise/outings are okay up until the last week or so; then it's time to slow her down a bit. These are all things I've been told by my breeder and/or things I have read on the subject (and I've read plenty!). I am a beginner breeder myself. My Lexie just turned 1 yr old yesterday and we are hoping that she is pregnant right now. Sounds like your Koko is about a week or so ahead of Lexie's schedule. If Lexie is pregnant her expected due date will be October 20th. When will Koko be due to deliver. We can compare their pregnancys!:) |

Whoa !!!!!!! Ok. What is with Breeding before 2yrs? I was under the impression this is when breeding should begin. 2yrs. I am a bit green also but I think we should all be a bit more careful. But also... work with what has happened. So now what......:) |
