I couldn't remember which was safe and which wasn't. I just remember reading something about it on here. I just went and checked my paper work from when I had Bella's teeth cleaned and Jersey Spayed. My vet used "Sevoflurane." Does anyone know if this is also safe or what the unsafe anesthisia was called? My vet is very good and is supposed is always voted best in the area, but still I want to be safe then sorry. Again, I'm happy Dixie is alright, and yes you're right an allergic reaction can happen but I'd have it out with the doc. about why the tech allowed her to go when she wasn't really ready. Thank god she came through alright. Elaine |
OMG that's terrible! I'm glad that she's O.K now. Maybe it's better she didn't stay the night, because if she did she would've been alone and no one would be able to notice her condition. It's so scary when they go under because anything can go wrong. Is the vet going to reimburse you at all for the spay since it sounds like it was their negligence as to why it got this bas for her? |
Im so sorry this happened to your girl. Im so glad you did take her home, if not and if noone was there at night with her, she could of died. |
omg i just got on and read this i am so very sorry i hope dixie recovers fast with god speed this just has tore me all to pieces i can just imagine how you are feeling the vet tech should be fired if she is that uncaring she does not need to be working in this type of enviorment and has not the slighest clue as to what she needs to be doing again gb both you and dixie:littleang :littleang :getwellso |
ps what blows me away is my vet cleaned her teeth with no problem must have been different meds he used |
After what I have been through with an incompetent vet. I am seriously thinking that spaying and any needed surgeries I will have done by specialists. I know it costs more but the pain and suffering is not worth it. There are good vets out there but they are hard to find. Trust your gut instincts, always. Thank God she is fine now. I am so glad Dixie is okay. This is exactly why I would never let Ellie stay alone at a vet's office when sick. It is just not safe. Vet techs do bug me. I have seen a few that you don't know what planet they are on that day. I was reading an interesting article about anesthesia online. It was saying that the gas form is so safe but injectable may be safer if the administer of the gas isn't "all there" that day. Now, I would never use injectable but it is something to think about. Drawlins27, was it you that just had one of your dogs in for emergency surgery and they had trouble waking him up? |

oh i'm sorry you had to go through that! thank God she's ok! |
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I am glad she is OK!!! And you should try to get the ER bills back... They should have been extra careful with her, with all her antecedents... Good momma, she is a lucky one!!! |

Here is the article but I don't know about some of the stuff this person is saying (especially with the use of barbituates), so this serves as my disclaimer.;) The part I was talking about is at the very bottom. http://www.2ndchance.info/anesthesia.htm |
OMG that is so scary, and reminiscent of how I lost Starr:cry: I KNEW she didn't look good when I picked her up, as she'd been spayed and had dental cleanings previously and was just fine. That last time she was SO groggy and was whining:( I didn't listen to my gut, and believed the vet tech, who said she'd be fine:mad: Thank GOD you know better, I sure didn't back then. I'm SO glad that Dixie is going to be okay! This is a good post for everyone to see:thumbup: |

I think that it is the vet tech who administers the gas (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm really suspecting that she gave her too much and may have given my Bailey too much as well. I'm requesting that she be let go and I'm going to file an official complaint against her, but I need to get my ducks in a row first so to speak. |
It's okay. I never did find out what went wrong with my girl, but suspect too much drugs. I didn't get the necropsy, as we were already in debt with her surgery bills. I should have! I am just very very thankful that you knew Dixie wasn't right and did something about it. We waited too long to get Starr to the ER vet, and she was DOA. At least we were holding her and talking to her, telling her we loved her, when she went:love: Dixie is one lucky girl and I hope that if the vet tech is guilty that she never works with animals again! |

This is a very informative thread and I am happy to hear that Dixie is ok....I am contemplating getting my lil one spayed next month (she will be 8 mths old) and I now have a list of things to ask my vet before I even schedule the surgery. |
Thank you guys for posting all this important information! I love how everyone on this site is so quick to share their story so that others can be aware in case it happens to their baby. I am happy that everything is going better with Dixie now. :) |
When i picked Pixie up from her breeder last weekend she said to me..'you do realise she will be too small to breed from'? so i said...'yes of course...we will be getting her spayed'.. my breeder was NOT happy when i said that and proceeded to tell me the risks of putting such a tiny dog under an anaesthetic and told me her friend had lost a dog while having teeth pulled. I don't think pixie will be much over 3lbs as an adult so i'm not going to take the risk..i'm just too scared of losing her...she will only be put under anaesthesia if absolutley necessary. I wanted to get her spayed because my last yorkie, Heidi, developed mammary cancer later in life and i was told that if she had been spayed when she was younger she would have been less at risk. |
Now I'm afraid to have Penny spayed. I'm going to find a vet that will keep her overnight. |
1 Attachment(s) [COLOR="Red"]NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOG AT THE VET'S OFFICE OVER NIGHT UNLESS THEY HAVE AN ATTENDENT WORKING ALL NIGHT... I'VE SEEN TOO MANY DOGS DIE AS VETS WENT HOME TO COME BACK THE NEXT MORN TO DEAD DOG.... When Mic was so ill last winter I told my vet to take him home with her if she though she needed to.. He was on IV's and spent 5 days in the hospital... As to the anistesiea... I've seen dogs go under to come out with brain damage... I've seen dogs go under who's ears stood perfectly before hand to have them fall... I've been breeding my dogs for over 20 yrs now and I have just found someone whom I think I can trust a little... It's so scary.. You just don't know how the yorkshire or any tinny dog will react to anisetics.. |
