How do you get a urine sample? No jokes Please!:p The vet wants a urine sample from Adie and it has to be the first thing in the morning. How does one collect said sample? I mean it's not like she will pee in a jar for me! </IMG> |
hmm that's an interesting dilemma, I've never had the vet ask me for a urine sample, but they have asked me to bring in a stool sample before, which is must easier to go about collecting...hmm...maybe you should call and ask your vet what the recommend a person do to collect a urine sample from their animal. |
I haven't tried it, but some people us a small jar lid or something that they have taped to dowel, or something similar that you can slide under them when they are going. Or, you could always turn the pee pad upside down so it doesn't absorb and get it that way, but seems like it would be messy that way if they stepped in it, went on the edge, etc. Good luck! Let us know what works. |
I would have the vet take it. It couldn't get contaminated that way. It would also be easier for you. I tried collecting some from Ellie (HAHA). |
I had to collect some from our female (r.i.p.). i took one of my clean tubes that i use to test the fish water. and after she went i put it flat the ground and it just went right in. and luckily i got enough and they were able to take the test they needed. good luck! i hope your baby will be ok! |
Get up early and take her into the garden for her first pee, then when she goes to pee, quickly put the container under her and hey presto you've got it. |
My dog would NEVER let me put a container under her. She'd run away!! That sounds like a difficult thing to obtain!! |
I always prefer that the vet take the sample...that way it isn't contaminated by accident and skews the results. |
I haven't had to do any for Kacee, but I did for Muffin a few times. I got those little plastic containers that hospitals distribute pills in and I'd wait right next to her and as soon as she would squat I'd stick it under her. It worked fine. I'd then transfer it into the container the vet gave me that has a lid.:) |
I had to do that one time with a little foster. I used a long handled soup spoon. When she squat, I just slipped that spoon under her from behind and she didn't even know I did that. I had a Zip loc freezer bag handy to put it in. |
I get the short, wide plastic storage containers, like Ziplock or Glad. I wait until they squat and slide it under. I've done it to Loki probably 10 times. Sammy might not tolerate it so well. :-) |
Thanks everyone! You have given me some really good suggestions. This board rules!!!!! :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: :luvu: |
I couldn't get anything to work with Bailey. What I finally ended up doing was taking him out to the garage first thing in the morning. He has an area in there where he pees when it rains because heaven forbid he should pee outside in the rain. I just flip the pee pads upside down and use a dropper to collect some when he's finished. |
