Help!! Newspaper and puppy pad shredding Hello all, I have recently joined this site in hopes of learning how to raise our young yorkie pup. We received Morgan at 12 weeks and he will be 16 weeks on September 8. The problem we are currently having is keeping him from tearing up his paper and pup pad in his activity yard. Both of us work during the day so Morgan has free reign in his play yard with crate attached. We keep his water, toys and paper inside his yard with him. Even after we purchased the bitter apple spray, frame to hold pup pad and newspaper, and other dog deterent sprays, he still is fascinated with ripping everything to shreds. Just this morning, he somehow got to the pup pad underneath the paper in the frame and demolished it all over the carpet in the play yard. This is strange because he usually does this when we are away. I looked at other posts but did not find any relief. Anyone have any suggestions. Cleaning cottony pieces every day is getting to be a drag. Thanks, Morgan's worried owner |
provide a new interesting toy each day and rotate them ... he is just bored and is looking for something to chew on (he is also teething) a nylabone may be the answer ... good luck, we have all been there .... post pictures of your sweetie ... |
Been there, done that! It's the pits. They can really make a mess of those paper pads, can't they? It does help to give them something else to do as they seem to do it when they are bored, but that doesn't always work. As has been mentioned in several other posts washable pee pads can be a great help. Not only are they cheaper in the long run, but they can't tear them up. There are many places that sell them. I also sell them. Mine are reclaimed hospital pads that I put colorful new print tops on. They are large approximately 30 inches x 34 inches and very absorbent. They waterproof barrier works great, no leaking. If you are interested give me a PM. |
Oh yes, I feel your pain - my two shredded their pads twice and it was enough for me - I switched to washable pads after that:) |
Oops, I forgot to say 'Welcome to YT' and congratulations on your new baby:) |
Welcome! I will echo what others have said, but will add that he should outgrow this soon. Gracie had a phase at about 12 weeks where she loved to shred pee pads. I tried every type of frame imaginable and she still did it somehow. Within a few months, she grew out of it. However, I still cannot leave tissues or paper towels within reach. They will be snow in a second! |
Mine love to shred any type of paper, tissue, etc. I just keep picking it up, and am happy their not eating my furniture. LOL |

Boy! Isn't that the truth!! |
I am using the washable pee pads with my Peanut (she is 4 months old)... I love them... it never moves!!! There are many people on Yorkietalk that sell them... I got mine from Genie (Cookie2 on YT). They really do save you money! I was going thru cases of the disposable pee pads... |
Welcome. Gypsy is into shredding any paper laying around. Luckily she does not shred the pee pads. |
Thanks so much Thanks all who replied so quickly, I was not expecting that. I will try all suggestions given and hopefully he will get bored with the paper soon enough! flalle:D Oh yes, I will post pics later after resizing. |
