crate training ? what is crate training ? i read a lot about it here on YT ... oh . and is is nesessary ? |
crate training is keeping your pup in their crates during the day as a way to teach them to potty outside... the only time the pup comes out is to eat, play time and to poop... another type of crate training is just at night... the pup stays in the crate which is usually stuffed with pillows to make a very small area at night in order to make sure he doenst' pee in your house. Layla was crate trained at night and STILL loves her crate... and naps in her baby crate and because she is now potty trained she has a big crate by my bed where she sleeps at night.. i think some form of crate training only helps making the potty training easier! Layla was not crate trained during the day i just watched her like a hawk... but since day one she has been in her crate at night... when you put a pup in their crate at night.... chances are good they are going to cry.. but they CAN"T come out until they stop crying.. at which point you take them out to potty and then right back in the crate.. taking them out when they cry lets them know that the crying works. however now that Layla is potty trained when she cries at night i know something is wrong and to get her outside fast! |
Crate training So, how often do you need to take her out during the night? Our puppy can't last all night in a crate, so we have him confined to a pen at night (with a crate available to sleep). He uses the paper in the pen. Does this confuse him? He whines in the pen, and I don't respond to the whinning and barking, next thing I know, there's pee or poop on the paper. Was that an escape whine or a "I gotta go" whine? I tried putting him in the crate and closing it for 5 min today. He SCREAMED. I had to leave him there until he stopped, about 15min. total. I then took him outside and he urinated on the lawn. I showered him with praise. He had some run around time with me in the house, then back in his pen (not the crate). If I have to go out for a short time, should he be in the pen or crate? Sorry, I'm confused. I really want him to catch on so he has more freedom to be with us. Thanks, Liz:confused: |
