How do Yorkies share their territory with... We are going to move into a bigger house and will have to get big watch dogs. (May be Bull mastiffs or Rottweiler type) Some people tell me that Yorkies will not get along with those bigger type of dogs and the bigger dogs will then kill the yorkies. Is that a fact ? I will get the other dogs as puppies although my yorkies are 4 and 5 years old already. |
Socalize, socalize, socalize. It's all in the way you raise them. A big dog can be as gentle as a little dog if you train it in the beginning. Remember your getting these dogs as pups, so they'll want to rough house with the yorkies. Make sure it doesn't get out of hand. If they play to rough put them in time out. As long as your vigilant in your training I don't see a problem. |
I agree with the previous post. It will work but socilization is the key. My best friend has 3 yorkies and a Rottweiler. The rott thinks he is a yorkie til a stranger comes around.....Apolloa has never hurt the yorkies.... We have our 2 yorkies and also have a rott pup(6months). We are raising them together. Working on socialization here big time...Gunnar likes the yorkies but he is more interested in his toys.... So it can work but you will need to work at it.. |
There won't be a problem with that if you never leave them unnattended together, and socialize the puppies and yorkies from the time they are babies. Both mastiffs and rotties tend to be laid-back, calm, and total sweethearts. I want to see pictures when you get the big babies! :D |
I agree with all the above. Socialize , socialize. It might be a good idea to take the bigger dog to training to make sure it will listen to you in case a situation does ever arise. Good to see another South African on the site. I think there are four of us now, (including Lauren, who is now a Californian! lol) Your will love it here. I am addicted! Such wonderful, caring people with lots of good info!:) :) |
Oops, I just saw you are not a newbie!:p |
Thanx thanx thanx Thank u all for all the good advise. I am so glad to hear about the possibility of having them all. :) Now again I am having another concern. My little girl Jessie, she is 4 years old , weighing about 1,9 kg is getting some small ... lit ooks like fatty glands under her skin. Is this normal ? Something I can do about it ? At first I thought it was mosquito bites but it is not red or inflamed or itching nothing. Her hair also tends to get very oily just after 2 days. |
