I know we have discussed this before. But I have never really looked at the detail of what my vets (yes I do mean more than one:rolleyes: ) charge.

GiGi was recently diagnosed with having a growth that was necessary to have removed. Weeeelllll.....long story short, miraculously the morning of the scheduled surgery the growth started to show signs of healing......THANK YOU GOD:D . I am now reviewing the bills that we are going to have to pay over the next month or so (credit card). Don't get me wrong anything for my peanuts. We also went for a second opinion (real fast) cause I am a firm believer that the more informed you are the better. While this other vet (specialist) agreed with the type of procedure my local vet was planing he could not verify the diagnosis..not enough info without add'l tests.

But any how....the local vet did blood work that we were charged $93 for. Is this in line with what any of you in the New Jersey/New York are paying? I know the prices differ through out the country.

Blood work at my vet in Michigan runs around $80 - so I'm thinking that is probably in line with NY/NJ prices.

Yes it seems that Mich is in close line with New Jersey......I see this guy is not as cheap as I thought he was. But when your baby is sick you pay ANYTHING!!!!:eek:

I am so grateful the she started healing...I had told him that the growth was oozing fluid when I first brought her in but the growth was not changing much. He did an aspiration and said it was a tumor that looked malignant. So you know we freaked and did what ever fast checking we could. I mean that is very difficult to detect without biopsy and also very difficult to choose not to do anything for a while. I am a little concerned that he said to do the surgery without doing a biop first. But as the specialist said she would have to go under for the biop also. This surgery would have cause her to have part of her tail removed. I checked with GiGi's breeder (who I call before I even call a specialist) said that it would be an extremely painful operation. So with that in mind I just had to get as much verification as possible.

I guess it is a learning experience when it come to medical. Some times you just can not tell. My attorney tells me that doctors are ALLOWED to make mistakes and that medicine is not a science....can you beat that. I have been know to go for 4 second opinions and that works very well for me;) .
It has kept me out of surgery too. Now when it comes to an emergency.....well that's different.

Ellie's vet charged $94 for preop bloodwork, so that price sounds in line.

That price sounds about right :)

I dont know the breakdown, but my Schnauzer had a growth (tumor)removed from her rear flank area and it cost me almost $600.00. This was blood work, anesthesia, pain meds and the surgery.

My last bill for bloodwork for my poodle was approximately $120.
