I don't know what to do Ok here is the problem I went back to work a month ago and every single day I would go home during lunch to spend half an hour with Royce then I would rush back to work ( it's really exhausting ) in the meantime I was looking for a reliable dog walker and my friend referred me one who is well known in my neighborhood and is excellent ...yesterday I was discussing dog walkers with a neighbor I found out that the dog walker that I contacted who was described to me as trustworthy and excellent hires other people mostly students when she does't have time to walk the dogs herself ( I learned this from someone else the dog walker in question never told me about it ) and now I feel that I can't trust anyone to walk my dog...the thing is that for a couple of months I will be working from anothor office and I wont be able to go home during lunch time ...that means Royce will be alone from 8 AM till about 4:30 PM ....Do you think thats too much for him ? should I let my fear go and allow someone else to walk my dog ...Or let him stay alone ? |

how old is royce? also my take on it is that I personally would want to know my dog is safe at home rather than worry about him in someone elses care. Unless it was a family member or a good friend then I wouldnt trust it. |
I have the same problem on Wednesday's. The monkeys are going to have to stay home from 7-3:30 and it kills me. I have tried it a few times just to see how they do and they are fine. Well rested and hyper but just fine. I would trust that Royce is home resting and sleeping and SAFE over having someone you don't know come in. Is there a doggie daycare in your area? I find that by taking them 2 times a week the day after they are totally exhausted and really do just rest all day. |

I leave her home while I'm at work and I hate it. But I need to work, right? I leave her food, water, toy, treat, pee pad, bed, my shirt that I wear the day before. I know she is not happy but she is safe. I do take her to daycare sometime and luckily there is one really close to my work place and they take small dog!!! She even has yorkie playmate there!!! But your case, I would leave your baby home instead of having untrustworthy dog walker!!! Good luck. |

:animal36 I think he will be fine. You can't always trust people whom you have to pay for a service to do what you would do or how you would do it. Plus, with all the amenities left for him I think it would be less stressful if he was left there by himself:love: Crystal,Josh, and Peanut Pooh Bear |
That same situation happened on an episode of Law & Order SVU. The dog walker hired students and when the owners went out of town, the student/walker had a party and was killed. Ok, so that's totally just a show, but I had to mention it. :) I work from 10 am to 6 pm everyday. At first I did what you did, coming home for a half hour, but it became too much. I finally got Riley a sister, Lily, to keep him company. I let them roam around the house and they are fine. I actually just got a webcam, but it's not setup right yet. I can't wait to be able to see what they do all day when I'm at work. I think it's safer to just keep them at home then to put them in the hands of someone else, unless you really knew the person. I think sometimes we forget that are small little babies are still dogs, and dogs stay home alone all the time...otherwise no one would be able to have a dog. My boss let me bring in Lily the other day and it was awesome, but it was only for the day. |
I just started working full time again, so where before I was home most afternoons, I would take him for walks and play with him. But now that I work, he's alone from 7 or 8 (depending on when my bf and I leave) until around 5:30 when I get home. The first day he peed in the hallway, but it was a fresh pee, so I think he just got excited when I came home. But Iworked all this week and that was his only accident! He was really hyper when I got home, so thefirst thing I do is take him for a walk and then I play with him fora bit. He doesn't seem to be bothered that I work all day... but he sure does get happy to see me when I come home! :) PS: I don't think I could ever trust a dog walker... they come into your home.. it's human nature to be curious alone in someone elses house. What if they copy your key? What if they forget to lock the door? What if they leave something on? What if they walk the dog and the leash is on loose? All these things would freak me out all day! Even when I'm gone and my bf or my mom is watching te dog, I call them 5 times a day just to check on him! lol |
Thank you for your advice . I made up my mind I won't be hiring a stanger to walk my dog during the day ...if an accident happens I will blame myself all my life ..I will take him for 45 min walk before I go to work ...then I will live him with the TV on ..his favorite homemade treats ..toys ...food and pee pad..then I will take him for a long walk to the park when I get home around 4:30 ...I think he should be fine anyway its better this way then go to work and worry what if an accident happens with the dogwalker ...after all it's not their dog they don't have the same feelings and therefore they wont be extra cautious no matter what ... |
when i first got morgan i had a job that was 5 minutes away so i was able to go home and take morgan out to pee and then go back to work. In january of this year tho i got a different job that's 20 minutes away so i was no longer able to take her out at lunch. I have her in an ex-pen while i'm at work. She's alone from 7:30am to 4:30pm and does ablsolutely fine. i believe she just sleeps all day long even tho there are toys in her crate. Do not feel too bad about leaving him. I'm sure he'll be fine. Dogs do not have a concept of time which is why they are just as excited to see you if you've been gone for 10 minutes or 8 hours. |
He will be just fine!! In an ideal world it would be great to be home all day with them-BUT, keep in mind that even if you are home, you are doing other things, not just doting on them the entire time. The reality is, that most people work!! If only stay at home people got pets, then there would be many, many puppies out there that would never find a home. I make the most of the time I am at home with her. We go for walks, play, ect. I try to get home for lunch, but the days when I am crazy busy and don't make it home, she does just fine. It shows how much you care about him that you are concerned- that matters a whole lot! Don't feel guilty- your baby will be fine! |

I work out of the house too and Brandi is home "alone" for the most part......my son works nights.....so he's home but sleeping while I'm at work and he doesn't leave the door to his disaster area opened.......she does fine.....though she demands my attention from the minute I walk in the door........which is just fine she deserves it........ |
I'd rather leave him home with his pee pads, then have some stranger walking my dog. There's just too much dognapping going on, and I don't like everyone to know I even have them. |
